If true, makes the trade even worse, hard to believe they didn't realize this and account for it if they were playing him. - vabeachbear
I don't think that is accurate though. IIRC the first bonus kicked in after 20 RS games. He played 19. Could be wrong but that is what I recall seeing at the time he signed his contract for this season. |

I thought Hjalmarsson's days with the Hawks would be numbered when he signed the sheet from SJ...
...not so since he then extended for what is now a bargain. So I guess not every player is stigmatized. - ArlingtonRob
Yes, Rob, there are exceptions to every rule. |

Could be why he was sat, if he was a difference in getting the cup, they'd eat the money next year, when it was clear he wasn't going to help win it, not taking a chance.
If your numbers are correct, the answer to the earlier question about playing him to give him a game in the finals I bet is NO |

His bonuses were for regular season games. Not playing in the playoffs is because he has turned out to be useless on the ice. lol |

Here is an article I found with details on his contract it doesnt specify whether it has to be RS games or just total games played tho. Also even if it is just regular season games looks like we are still on the hook for 750k http://www.broadstreethoc...extension-with-the-flyers |

war on ice reporting Hawks are going to be hit with 1.25 mil in performance bonus overage next year because of KT bonuses for number of games played this year - Dunnhawkey
Wow! That trade was a winner on so many levels!

Hmm could be why they traded Smith. |

NHL players don't get paid in the playoffs. Salary, bonuses and cap hit pertain to regular season. |

Who knows what kind of promises the Oilers made to Shultz, probably a guarantee he would be in the NHL for sure. Turns out he isn't very good or wasn't ready and he wound up with a horrendous squad that killed any development for the kid. Pretty much the same thing with Jake Gardner.
That's a selling tool the Hawks can use with Mike Reilly - you want to be a great player? - sign with the best and learn under the best. There is no difference in money he can make under an ELC, the potential for winning is the carrot. - RickJ
Todd M didn't handle Merco Mueller well either. Someone posted the Oilers are "finalists" for Reilly but I haven't seen it anywhere credible. Just that they are meeting. If he goes there it would be because of McDavid and they have nothing on D until Nurse comes up.

If David Rundblad's name is engraved on the Cup I think every Hawk fan and everyone involved in the organization will be thrilled...
...since it means the Blackhawks won another championship, and there's no stigma attached to that as far as I know. |

The Flyers carried part of his salary. Wouldn't they be responsible for a % of bonus? |

Thanks! Always appreciate your views. Sounds like Reilly would be a great pickup for us if we get him. I thought Panarin looked pretty good in the recent world championships. He has some moves and a nice shot. - PitMartin7
It is honestly almost impossible to gauge Panarin until you see against the hawks checking lines and on PPs.

They didnt retain any salary in the trade and I dont think he played a game this season before he was traded so not likely |

Why would anyone actually choose to live that close to the treeline? Especially since the money is effectively the same and most other clubs are more competitive.
I can imagining Reilly skating on a pair with Shultz, then the hockey world could watch his skills slowly diminish as well. |

I dont think that is necessarily true players have bonuses for playoff accomplishments as well like Toews+Kane bonus for winning cup in 2010 and Iginla last year with the bruins Iggy deal: $1.8 M base salary, $3.7 M games played bonus, $500,000 goal scoring/team playoff performance: total $6 M. Idk how it works in this case with Timonen tho the details are vague |

I am with you.
But...honestly, I don't think see they way the Blackhawks prevailed as any indication this series over, or that the Lightning won't again come strong, maybe even harder, because whether coach says it or not, the pressure is on.
Sure, sure I can convince myself that veteran leadership, calm, the biggest boatload of fat contracts since the cell phone was created is gonna prevail...but I saw that the Lightning checked closely moved quickly and for 65% of the time controlled the play, keep the Hawks from many looks, and were always right there close to the hawks.
Have we not seen enough turning tides and pinball shots, deflections and broken stick plays that left pucks stopped and open ?
LUCKY has always been part of the sport.
Call me a worry wart, call me a skeptic, but I saw lots of quicksand in the game that I wanted to see more dash, and traffic.
No one wants this Cup more than me...my fourth as a fan.
After winning this first one, I see how people could be optimistic and say 4.
And I have a standing offer of a ticket for game six, but would be thrilled not to be there for the skate with the Silver.
But I am not buying any tickets back to Chicago just yet.
(question is, "Do i have put my Wizard 3 sweater in mothballs and get a Wizard 4?)

Not on this board. He could score the OT winner in game 7 and it wouldn't go away. The narrative has been written...he flat out sucks. Period. |

Those opinions were formed based on his play. I actually thought he might be an answer until about Feb. Even hoped he would come through against ANA. He sucked. I did think he looked better in game 1 in Tampa. Certainly a better option than KT but he isn't worth keeping around next year unless he really shows something more. They very well may keep him - seeing him as a project. I think he has been a project for too long. If he hasn't show something by 24 give Johns, TVR and the others a shot. |

The article referred to in another post said $750,000 kicks in after 10 games.
But wouldn't that count against this year's cap since (because Kane was on LTIR at the end of the regular season) the Hawks would have room for it under this year's cap? |

Hardly. They were based on his play early this season. If people were watching objectively, they would have seen that when he was used for extended stretches he improved steadily, and got better with each game. But after the first week or two of the season, it didn't matter, it was too late...the HB narrative had been written, and group think took over. Nothing he did, or does will ever matter.
For the record, I don't think he's very good either, and I certainly don't want him back next year, but the amount of venom and vitriol directed at him on this site the last 8+ months is so over the top it's beyond ridiculous. |

Speaking of projects - Ron Wilson was interviewed today and asked about Anton Stralman when he had him as a young player with the Leafs. Being very polite, Wlson said the problem with Stralman then was he was very timid on the ice (aka scared sh$tless).
After half a season, Wilson went to Brian Burke and asked him to get rid of Stralman for any warm body who could play. Burke called Darryl Sutter and got 33 year old Wayne Primeau and Calgary's 2nd round pick in 2011 for Stralman and some other nobody. SUtter watched Stralman in action and after a short period of time sent Stralman packing to Columbus for a 3rd rounder. After 2 years in Columbus, Stralman wound up in New York.
Meanwhile, Brian Burke needed to get his original 2nd round pick in 2010 back in order to get Phil Kessel in trade from Boston. He called up Stanbo and they flipped 2nd rounders, with Stanley getting the Leafs #2 in 2011 which they got from Cagary. That selection turned out to be Brandon Saad.
And Stalman is doing just fine now.
Maybe Stanbo is hoping scared, timid David Rundblad eventually turns out like Stralman. Can't see it myself.

Tried to respond to the guy saying something about hawks winning if Q doesn't screw things up... Quote system on this site doesn't work though.
-----------------------
Q is the reason the Hawks are even in it. More than one coach has been outsmarted by Q.
If Q was less than stellar you'd be watching the ducks right now, or the Preds, or the mild. Q outsmarted all those coaches. |
