Irrelavant really as no one is coring 200 points a season in today's NHL.

And everyone played against those same goalies.

And to be fair, a late 30's Gretzky with a crippled back got 90 points in the trap era. guy was indeed great.

Gretzky's stats are just so over-the-top dominating that they negate any sort of debate about comparing eras or teammates or anything. To me the only discussion is whether or not he's the most dominant figure in ANY sport, discussing him with Michael Jordan and Babe Ruth, that kind of thing. His numbers are crazy, they don't even make any sense.

Maybe if Crosby or someone had started putting up 160 point seasons one after the other we could start to say, in this more defensive era this can be compared to Gretzky, but no one has done that. Other than Mario, no one else has even come close to being on another level like that.

Yeah, nobody was that far ahead of everyone else in their sport. Jordan...maybe Messi in soccer right now...but still not utterly shattering the record books in their sport. 200+ point seasons in hockey are deranged, it's hard to even think up a comparable in other sports. Hitting 100 home runs a year for four or five years in a row, something unimaginable like that.

Can the draft just happen already? I just want to find out who the leafs select. I know they have done all their research, and with Hunter leading the way, I am more than confident that he will make some good selections.

If they are looking to trade down, I hope it is with the 24th pick, and not the 4th. If guys like Harkins, or Eriksson Ek are still there at 24, I would hope they would take one of them instead of moving down.

Something along the lines of 24 and 95 for 29 and 32 from Arizona, or 24 for 28 and 44 from Tampa. If they have guys who they have rated in the high teens that are still around, say 2-3 guys, and a few in the area of 24 they also like, moving down 4-5 spots while adding a 2nd is a good thing.

Trading up has not worked well for them at all. Hopefully if they trade down, it will work out in their favour as it has for Anahiem when they drafted Gibson and Rakell.

lol...it's like, is it even possible to pick two less likely hockey players to poop on? Even people who hate the Leafs will say yeah Wendel Clark was some good poop. And then Gretzky...really, those two guys? Who doesn't like Gretzky and Clark?

Yep. Whoever Shanny, Hunter, Babcock look at and say he's the best hockey player, regardless of size or position.

Agreed. Wayne thought the game extremely well on the ice. I think Mario had better hands though.

Gretz was the best forward all time at reading the play. He would go to an area that seemed out of the play and the puck would always end put there. That and he had a great shot, underrated actually....

Guys today are encouraged not to be creative and see the game differently. They teach systems to little kids now. Just not the same...
