Konecny I could see being a fit. He's good with the media and could handle the market. - dwoo33
But I don't see him being there at 24. |

If it means Barzal I do it in a second.
Plus we'll be extra bad next year!!! - lumlums
And then the year after that, Stamkos and O'Reilly are going to come home, and play for the Leafs at a discount, which will let them throw money at Seabrook to be a veteran anchor on the back end.

Barzal looks like he might slide to 11. Could also be Werenski either way if we can obtain that 11th pick from Florida in a Kessel trade it looks promising for the rebuild. |

If we could unload a crap load of salary I would support all three of those signings. Along with the young guys we would be close to contending with that line up. |

Barzal might go top-5 at this point. Lots of speculation that he would have been up there all season had he not been injured. |

The Leafs have nothing in their pipeline to build around. Why would they be trying to snipe secondary players from cap-strapped teams? They have fewer assets than other clubs to offer, so any trade would cost them more dearly then other teams trading futures. And if the best that trading in this way will do is assembling a new core of secondary players from other clubs, then I question how that is wise or exciting to anyone who has endured this last decade of futility. They've already tried that.
Why trade Phaneuf for Ryan O'Reilly at this point? Why trade anyone? O'Reilly is going to command whatever he commands on the open market. He's probably a second line centre at best that gets paid like a first liner. He's Colorado's problem because he'll walk or ask for way too much money (instead of just the too much money he already earns) at the end of next year. So the Leafs should take assets that could be otherwise used to rebuild their system to buy Colorado's problem?
The Leafs need picks and prospects. They need lots of them, they need talented players, they need some of them to have elite talent, and they need them at every position. They don't need to trade their captain or a promising young D coming into his prime for a second line centre that gets paid like a first liner because Tyler Bozak is over-matched. |

Based on what?
I have to be honest, I don't think he drops outta the top ten. If I'm Shanny, I talk to San Jose about a deal involving their number 9 pick and Kessel.
Maybe something like Kessel for #9, Chartier/Mueller and Wingels to offset some salary and give us a young third liner to help fill out the roster...? |

Konecny's stock has been steadily rising the last two-three months. I think he's made enough waves to be high on everyone's mind right now. I think he'll be a top 20 pick, if not 15. But I'm good with Harkins or Kylington or Eriksson Ek or White at 24 as well. |

Plus would be nice.
I'd try and get the #6 from NJD with him, send JvR back home to NJ (Lou would love that no doubt), if you can add in a decent prospect then awesome |

Okay, A few questions on opinion.
1: Ideal return for a Kessel trade (team and players)
2: How far back are you willing to trade back in the draft? to who for what?
3: What is going to happen with Phaneuf? |

2) i would trade down to 5 or 6 but no lower...if the price is right
3) DP will go to EDM and light it up. |

1. To Nashville in a deal for Jones. Not going to happen though. I could see him going to SJS to be honest (see previous deal mentioned)
2. No. Use assets to get more high picks but stay at 4.
3. Trade, but the return will disappoint many here. |

"anyone that wants to watch Phaneuf and Kessel play another year for the Leafs is a sadist" - Bill Watters
It's not often I agree with Wilbur, but this time I do. As the leader of Salute-gate Phaneuf has to go and Kessel doesn't want to play here except for the money. By ridding ourselves of this baggage we are better. Who comes back I could not give a .... |

No idea what team, but good young player with 1st line potential, 1st round pick and another prospect.
Not willing. At all.
No idea. |

If that's truly how you feel, then there's no point to your post other than your avatar. These two are main assets we have that can bring back significant pieces to help launch the rebuild. Imagine if Shanny said Jusst get rid them, who cares what we get in return. That's ridiculous. |

1: Love that tradea
2: I think Hunter has his eye on Zacha or Barzal if they can get a good return for trading back that far.
3: Phaneuf could do well in EDM |
