I don't think so. I think that package moves you up 7-10 spots - PhillySportsGuy
I think because he is only 25 and a righty some teams may value Luke more than most of us. Yeah, that package likely won't get us to 12, but perhaps it gets us to Edmonton's pick at 16. |

I would do it if you could get 7 - 10 spots higher. Considering it also relieves salary cap pressure. And I don't bash Luke as much as some. To me, he's still an asset that has value. - TheGreat28
You'd need to find someone who wants Luke though |

Here is a deal that I could both see happening and would like to see happen:
To Dallas: Luke Schenn, Tampa's 1st and our first pick in the 3rd round
To Philly: the 12th overall pick - BiggE
I'm sorry I just have no idea why any team would give up anything of value for a #6 UFA dman in a contract that's paying him 3x what he's worth. |

Schenn is really only valuable if the team wants and can sign him long term. Would Edmonton really want 1 year of Luke Schenn?
It would take a lot to move up 15 spots in the first round. Probably multiple 2nds or another first or a player like Brayden+3rd |

I've done a similar thing. Felt the same way as you about Couts and Hamilton. In 2012, when Teravainen was sliding I really wanted him to fall to us but when Chicago grabbed him, I wanted Maatta (gotta love those Fins). In 2013, I wanted Pulock, Zadorov, Morrissey, or Wennberg. And last year (like this year), there was a bunch of players I liked. Can't lie, I was kind of pulling for Kapanen but loved the Sanheim selection. - five4fighting10
Some here are gonna really think I'm nuts for saying this, but with the amount of information that's out there today, I think a serious fan who watches video, reads scouting reports and rankings, and the pundits, could over a long run do as well as many GM's picking in the 1st round.
That's not necessarily to say the GMs of today suck. It's also not to say that any of us could realistically be a GM because so much more goes into it, and I'm only looking at one round.
It's more indicative of the fact that it's a crap shoot to some degree and there is so much information out there it ends up normalizing the process.
I think quite a few posters on this board over a 10 year period could do "as well" as the team.

OB & I had 7 or 8 names. Not 100% sure of the order, but I know we had Sanheim, Larkin, Honka, Milano, Tuch, Barbashev and Fabbri on it. Probably had Goldobin and Kapanen among the list, as well.
I do know that me an him were hi-fiving when Sanheim was announced and some of the folks near us looked at us like we had three heads. - Jsaquella
I wanted DeAngelo. Think they're enough alike today to make it a bit of a coin flip. |

That's why I thought a lot of teams passed on him. I'm more tolerant of that at the junior level I guess. |

Could possibly see something like the TB 1st rounder and the San Jose 3rd rounder, plus the Schenns for 16th overall and Montreal's 2nd rounder(obtained in the Petry trade) |

I wasn't scared off by that for either guy, but we put the list together, so if either of us swore a guy off, he stayed off.
I didn't have DeAngelo far behind the guys I mentioned, but I didn't have him with Sanheim & Honka among the D |

I think there's still some value there, but I'm not sure that teams see them as much more than a middle six forward and third pair defenseman with a little upside. |

probably the same way we see them: a couple of ok players who have done very little to distinguish themselves as top-level talent. other teams might take them but likely won't give a premium for them. i still have hope we haven't seen the best out of either schenn as yet |

If it were me I'd be aggressive in this draft even if it meant taking a step back this season. I'd move both if it helped long term |

if hexy could score 3 more picks in the top 100 (or 1-2 more + upgrade tampa's first rounder) that would be pretty much ok w/ me too
edit: but you know if we do that it will be "norris trophy finalist luke schenn" and "conn smythe winner brayden schenn" a couple years down the road |

Look how much St. Louis gave up for Paajarvi. Perron was an established, 25 year old and yes, they got back a pick, but Paajarvi was all about potential.
I think Brayden is still viewed as having a lot of upside, and he's young. |
