I would be amazed if they hadn't. - MBFlyerfan
confidentiality agreement (legal) and reputation (practical) - likely reasons why Reese won't comment |

Thanks, the organization certainly has been in lockdown mode with Hexy. No one had a clue about Hakstol. I don't have a problem with all the secrecy.
I really think he wants to completely remodel most of the d core. It is going to be a very interesting summer before training camp. Is Hanifin still rated as the #1 dman prospect or has Provorov passed him generally speaking? - ravishingone
The two sources I lean on, CSB and ISS, have Hanifin higher. So does McKenzie on TSN's ranking. |

I'm sure they have. Reese issued a no comment and left it at that. - Jsaquella
Unfortunate. Mason played well after he left, it's not like he went to pieces. But Mase seemed to have a good rapport with Reese. I'm sure they have maintained a relationship. I wouldn't be surprised if goaltenders seek advice from guys who aren't coaching them anymore. |

I'm sure they'll stay in touch, and Reese will offer support or whatever, at least until he gets another NHL gig |

I'm still waiting to find out what happened with Jeff Reese. Would really be a shame if he quit due to the way Ba-Ba Roobey handled Mason. - PLindbergh31
I'd be surprised if the public ever found out the truth. |

I'm sure it will eventually leak out, might take a few years, but most of that stuff eventually gets out |

I just wonder if Hexy really wants to find his Doughty. LA used significant assets early in the Lombardi tenure to build their blueline- they had some misses and some hits. A fellow poster, I thought made a very good point about Hexy being a former goalie certainly valuing a stud dman in front of him.
Ob and yourself follow the draft grading closer then me. I'm assuming no one in this draft is rated as high as Ekblad last year. However, Doughty was the third pick in his draft and second dman chosen in his draft year. Certainly the freight paid to move to #3 overall won't be as great as the pursuit of #1 overall last year.
I know I have been biased, but I think if he moves up it is for a dman and not a forward.

Yep. If the issue was strictly with Berube, would it be impossible for Reese to come back? Or do you think that ship has sailed? |

But then the media will cry and the WIP sheep will follow, just like when Richards gave his, "What's the point?" retort. |

He could very well move up if he likes one of the D. All three of the top D are really good fits for the style and system that Hextall and Hakstol say they want to instal. All three are exceptional passers and good in transition. Hanifin and Werenski are fluid skaters and have excellent mobility and Provorov isn't bad in that regard, despite a less fluid looking stride.
I wouldn't be amazed if Hextall traded up to ensure his guy, at all, regardless of position. |

I don't think the organization can do it from a PR perspective, and I doubt Reese would come back after how they dealt with it.
I mean, um, it was completely mutual because they said so. |

It sure sounds like the door was closed, but you never know...Lindros returned. Fred Shero returned. Those bridges seemed charred to ashes, where Reese seems like a simple philosophical difference. |

I agree with your theory that some here could probably do just as well as a real GM in making first round picks. There are a few here who I think could do it. There are a few others here who, while hockey knowledgeable, are probably too emotional to do it.
And, um, starting with the 2011 draft - hindsight is 20/20, how does that even make sense? - Scoob
Well, you'd have to trust me or go back through the chat here, but those were my honest picks on those drafts. I frankly didn't spend as much time before the Couts draft, and there was not as much information available as today.
And let's face it, if you look at my picks - Couturier, Maata, Pulock, and Tuch, it's not like I'm swapping in an absolute home run in the list. I could have said Hamilton was my pick instead of Couts.
Besides, at the end of the day none of you really give a crap if "my" picks were better or worse. It's kind of like my own little experiment. |

Probably so. I'm sure Reese will probably land a gig this year, provided he doesn't have a health issue. |

Good point, true. I think Reese would be able to land another job fairly quickly.
I guess there hasn't been any info regarding assistant coaches for the Flyers. I would think only Mullen really has a chance to return. |

No, I said, if you compared my picks to the actual picks of the team, I believe my 10 year set of picks will compare favorably to the actual picks. So come on, let's bet. I'm dead serious. Let's come up with a way to create a normalized scorecard - they get points for games played, plus-minus, points, whatever. I'll bet $1000, if I think about it, maybe even more. We'll start with the Couturier draft, so we're 4 years into the 10. - TheGreat28
We can go back even further with my picks. I had Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Shea Weber, Duncan Keith, and Jamie Benn all as top-10 picks when I made my mock drafts in those years. If you want, give me a few hours and I'll Email them to you. I'll bet you $80 million they're more favorable that the actual first round selections. |

Agree, I don't think this organization has to go into full blown rebuild mode. It would be nice to have more depth of prospects and that can happen if they can continue to identify talent past the first round. To use assets to move up into the top 4 and get the guy you really want is sensible.

I think what makes it easier for a single fan, versus a GM, is that the fan doesn't have to make decisions through a committee and make compromises.
On the other side of that coin, the fan doesn't have a guy like Nolet hitting homeruns that they get to take credit for later, either. - Tomahawk
The real statement I'm making with a claim like that is that
1) if it's a crap shoot then skill and knowledge go out the window, to some degree
2) in the long run things normalize back to the average
3) with the information that is available today, essentially the average fan has a team of scouts behind them. It's just called ISS, or Craig Button/Bob McKenzie vs. Simon Nolet.
Then, looking at trends, making reasonable forecasts and staying objective can yield decent results. |

Mullen is really the only one I'd like to stay. The PP has been highly effective for his entire run here. Murray has reportedly expressed a willingness to be an assistant. Rumors out there that they're waiting for Mike Stothers to finish up with Manchester to possibly come back |

Tell him about when the ads cover the actual board too and you can't read the comments. Probably not much he can do about it, but if so that'd be fantastic lol - benjichronic
If you're talking about this morning, that wasn't an ad. That was someone quoting a post with a long unbroken link in it. I fixed it. |

Thew work is done for you. You're given a list of very good prospects, and just choosing one off of that list. You aren't going out and doing the road work and identifying those players from scratch like the NHL GM's and scouting departments do.
