I think it's the skating and ability to dominate N-S/off-wing as well as having the strength and skill to barrel to the net w/ the puck ... Thornton's always been more of a perimeter tactician, and I see more of that in Strome. - Tomahawk
Very fair, can't say I disagree. Strome is more a perimeter guy than Eichel. I was looking more at the sheer ability to find guys in scoring position |

And if you draft a defenseman that doesn't pan out, it's the same thing...Look at Bobby Sanguinetti. - Jsaquella
i can't see him too well, luke schenn won't move out of the way. |

wasn't Hickey being selected (4th I think without looking?) so high LA going totally off the board? |

True, but Schenn is at least a NHLer, a total whiff gets you a guy like Sanguinetti or Hickey who stay in the AHL for years and usually finally get a shot years later on other teams after being waived or traded for peanuts |

Yes. FWIW, he was very coveted in NHL09. |

He was a pretty big reach, IIRC he was 25th or 26th among North American skaters that year. He's actually developed into a solid 4-5 guy for the Isles. |

Can you imagine if this team took Sanguinetti like they planned and never got Giroux? I would say that was definitely one rare instance where the Hockey Gods were smiling down on the Flyers.

Rumor has it that Sanguinetti wasn't even their first choice, that the guy they really liked was Trevor Lewis, who LA took. |

In all seriousness (and this will never happen, but) could the Flyers move up to the #2 spot without trading one or more of:
Giroux
Voracek
Mason
Morin
Sanheim
I actually think that, based on current team construction/needs, the #1 pick from Edmonton may be more obtainable than the #2 pick from Buffalo. But what if it was some form of:
#7, #29
2016 1st
Simmonds
Gostisbehere
B. Schenn

IMO, no. Although that's a pretty fair offer, I doubt it works |

Yes, now, 8 years later. The return Hickey got for the Kings was a bag of nothing-he was waived and claimed by NY. The original point being raised was a bust defenseman gets you more value than a bust forward. Which isn't written in stone |

Yeah, it's hard to do without totally dismantling the team. And really, in the end, you're probably better off keeping all of those pieces. Tempting, though, |

Unrelated, but I think that Victor Hedman has been the best defenseman in these playoffs. And that's nothing against Keith, Subban, or Seabrook. I know Keith has more points, but Hedman has been flat-out dominating in every game I've watched. |

Hedman is one of those players that is just flat out fun to watch. The kid's 6'6 and he skates like he's 5'11. He's a diligent, hard working defender in his own zone, and he can pass with the best of 'em. Hedman is very quickly becoming one of my favorite dmen in the league.
