True, but Schenn is at least a NHLer, a total whiff gets you a guy like Sanguinetti or Hickey who stay in the AHL for years and usually finally get a shot years later on other teams after being waived or traded for peanuts - Jsaquella
there's always the case of a guy being a true bust. i just think its more win/win if you stack the deck with high defensive prospects. forwards are much easier to acquire imo. |

In all seriousness (and this will never happen, but) could the Flyers move up to the #2 spot without trading one or more of:
Giroux
Voracek
Mason
Morin
Sanheim
I actually think that, based on current team construction/needs, the #1 pick from Edmonton may be more obtainable than the #2 pick from Buffalo. But what if it was some form of:
#7, #29
2016 1st
Simmonds
Gostisbehere
B. Schenn
other - jmatchett383
That seems like a fair offer, but Buffalo needs a franchise player and they'll get that in Eichel. Tough for them to pass that up.

Friedman is saying right now that Toronto has put the number 4 pick in play.
I'd trade Giroux for Eichel but very reluctantly. I really like G. |

They are, but if you tried to trade for a number one center or a second pair defenseman, which do you think costs more?
I draft the guy I feel is best, regardless of position, and roll with it. |

Columbus has the tools to move up. They could offer 8th overall, have 3 second rounders and could even dangle a prospect like Kerby Rychel for it |

Tell him about when the ads cover the actual board too and you can't read the comments. Probably not much he can do about it, but if so that'd be fantastic lol

In Timonen news, looks like if the Hawks make a change for game three it's going to be Trevor van Riemsdyk going in for Cumiskey or Rundbad ahead of Kimmo |

He says the Leafs see a mixed bag from 3-12. Since they need help all around it means less to them to pick 4.
Arizona, he says is not inclined to move the 3rd because they need a franchise center and think Strome is it. |

Agree with that analysis, it's why I am against the Flyers trading up, unless it's for McEichel |

Does anyone else believe in the possibility that if the Flyers draft a forward 7th overall that they go for a goalie like Blackwood with the Tampa pick? While I'm not a fan of drafting goalies in the first round I doubt any of the decent ones will be available by their second round choices. They have absolutely no goalie depth at all which is what has me worried for this team the most. |

obviously the #1 center costs more but i look at schenn, couts and laughton. all drafted high, not #1 centers possibly not top 6 forwards but still good players. granted they could all progress more. will they command the return we got from say, coburn? im not sure now. it just seems its likely that the flyers could draft a swcond tier defensemen as likely as they draft a second tier forward but the defensemen would command more. |

Possible. There's a few good goalie prospects, but goalies tend to go in bunches. After Samsonov and Blackwood, there's a few good candidates. I'd keep an eye on Matej Tomek, a North Dakota commit, who the Flyers interviewed at the combine as a possible 3rd or 4th rounder. |

I'd be okay with them trading back but that's because the player I think may be the third best player in the draft isn't projected to go top ten. That's me though.
I'm happy at 7. I definitely can't see anything good coming from trading up from 7. |

Yes, but if you draft a guy like Barzal and he becomes a number one center-which is very possible-then you have a huge trade chip or cornerstone piece in place.
Coburn got a big return because he is a proven, high minute shut down defenseman on a low impact contract from a team that is trying to make a Cup run at the TDL. At the draft a couple years ago, Coburn's trade value was 3 2nd rounders.
I still go the guy I think will be the best player, regardless of position. How easy has it been for the Penguins to find good wingers for Crosby and Malkin? Despite all the high picks they spent on D, they still are giving their two franchise centers substandard wing help |

Forward and defensive depth are much bigger priorities for me personally. If anything, goalies can be added via trade or FA. Mason, Varlamov, Dubnyk, Schneider, Bishop, luongo, lehtonen all were added to their respective teams via trade or FA.

How about Nashville. They've already worked a trade this year. |
