I'm just not interested in a 31 yr old, 7.8 cap hit, with 24.1 mil left to pay him.
Plus there's no way he'd waive to come here IMO. - dadeadhead
If he were a UFA I would take that deal as we do have short-terms space. That said, I believe he is on record as saying he wouldn't waive to go anywhere.

No it doesn't because the term is 3 years. We have the space to burn. And his contract expires when we need it to, to lock up our young players.
31 is not old. - ImNoTroll
I'm with DD on this one.
I'd like to see the Sabres get a younger player in the 25/26 years range for cheaper than Nash. I don't discount his skill, nor age, nor contract value independently....it's the combination I don't like. Rather see another option there.
ROR future contract demands scare me as well. |

Murray said the top 20 guys in this draft are in one class and then after that it starts to fall off.
If I have picks 8-15, is 21 and 31/51 enough to move out of that spot? - dadeadhead
I would think 21 and 51 could get you to 15. It depends who he'll target there but if Konecny is still on the board you offer that. He might trade 31 for a goaltender.

So you're worse than I thought. Trade Ennis, I highly skilled player that isn't out of place on the top line, for a stop gap.
ya ok
I wouldn't even do Ennis for Nash and you want to add 21 and 31?
SuperCat or troll, pick one. |

I'm in agreement, no thanks to Nash and he certainly won't waive to come here. If you're looking for that dynamic player in that age range you're looking at offer sheets to guys like Stepan, Tarasenko or Toffoli. |

If 21 and 51 are enough, I do it in a second.
I think it would be something more like 21 and a B prospect like Compher or Hurley. |

Nash is definitely not going to waive to come here. He asked for a trade after being in Columbus on a bad team for years. Why would he waive to come here right now? By the time he'd even be remotely interested, his contract will be expiring anyway.

That's a tough one...51 doesn't have tremendous value to me...not sure what GMs think.
21 and 31 have good value...but the top 2/3rds Of the 1st is pretty strong this year, and Murray had trouble moving back into the 1st last year...so I'm thinking other GMs have a high value on 1-15 this year. It definitely won't get you 8. |

He wouldn't. Murray will look elsewhere and it's probably somebody we haven't even talked about. |

Or he won't trade for anyone. Based on some of the recent comments from both him and Bylsma, this year is about getting the kids experience and allowing them to grow. |

I hope so, Nash and ROR have their warts as has been discussed.
Wish I could offer up options, but I'm not knowledgeable of who might become available...guess that is what GMs and Bloggers are for (hint Michael - do a blog on that).
Being older than many, I think back to them old days when PunCh Imlach acquired Rene Robert to complete the French Connection.
Would like to see something like that...high talent guy who is NHL ready, but on an overloaded team. Who are them guys? |

Yes, and it seems they want to stick to the youth movement. |

I'm 56 and can fondly recall Punch. The Robert trade goes down as one of the best trades the Sabres ever made. I think he traded Eddie Shack for Robert. Maybe we'll find our Rene Robert this summer.

Doesn't really fit with what they're trying to do. If they want to sign another guy to help on D, that's fine, but it should probably be a guy that can fill a bottom pairing role and that will only be here for a year or two. |

Last draft TM offered 3 2nds to get back in the 1st round. I don't think he'll have a problem offering 21 and 31 to move up if there this someone he really likes 10-15. |

Thought so last year as well. I just don't want them committing more years to guys who clearly won't be valuable for the majority of them. |

I think he will if what he said was true about the top 20 guys.
21 and 31/51 are 4-5 years away from regular NHL action.
He thinks the top 20 are all in that 1-3 years away. If he thinks that then more than likely so does everyone else. It might have to be 21, 31, and 51. Is it too much? IDK |

Some team/s usually go off the board a bit so there should be someone at 21 still within someones top 20 board at 21, don't you think? |
