I don't get why everyone is so hot to trade Lack. What will a pick 31-60 actually get us to replace Lack? Miller is gone in 2 years and Markstrom has never shown that he is an NHL goaltender, let alone a starter. After them, you have Cannata, Erikson and Demko. They all have potential, but that's about it.
I would suggest that if the Canucks didn't have to address Markstrom's contract (say he could play in the AHL another season), then no one would be talking about getting rid of Lack, and rather people would be talking about Lack replacing Miller and could Miller be traded to allow Lack the full time starter job. I have never heard anyone suggest Markstrom > Lack.
The Canucks are not loaded with top end goalie talent, and I would suggest keeping Miller and Lack and letting Markstrom go for a bag of pucks until Demko is available in 2 years is a reasonable plan. If you can improve upon the bag of pucks, great.
The other issue is, regardless of who is moved out between Miller, Lack and Markstrom, you still have Cannata and Erikson holding down AHL/ECHL responsibilities, and no other prospects in the pipe (barring Demko, another 2 seasons away). It would appear that Vancouver actually needs to acquire one or two goalie prospects to fill out the pipeline and hopefully build some competition to move up. - mungozen
Lack is on the block because Miller is the guy for yet another year at 60 games, afterwhich Lack is UFA and unlikely to return unless he is paid starter money and gets to take more than 40 starts in Miller's last year. In addition, the team is going no where but maybe squeak into the last playoff spot for the next few seasons, might as well sell high on something that could be a useful piece when the team wants to make a serious run in a few years (instead of that bag of pucks). If Demko pans out in 2 years (which wont be the case, but I like your optimism), he or whomever the heir is will be more affordable than Lack after 3-4 seasons as the number 1

What the hell were you thinking talking hockey.
As per your comments.. I think Demko is 3 to 4 year plan.
I personally don't see how Lack deserves starter money as he has never truly been a starter. He will never get us the return CS did. He does have the most value of any of our goalies but he still isn't a starter imo. At least not until he starts and finishes a season. He needs to go somewhere else to do that. Buffalo is an option as they are in a position to give him that role. We are not in a position to do that as we have Miller.(whom I think is our better option now)

I think he will look at low starter money, something in the 4 range like Schneider's was. I dont know enough about Demko to say 3-4 years, but seeing how long its taken some elite goalie prospects to make the jump, I think he is a fair way off from being the starter (though he could be backing up sooner). I have high hopes on Markstrom, he has the size and athleticism to be a Rinne 2.0, but I think his mental game needs the work. It seems he is improving and I see him at the very least being a mediocre starter until Demko is ready |

Getting rid of Lack and having Markstrom tutor under Miller is how I see it playing out, and I'm totally fine with that. As Benning said recently, Jacob Markstrom is ready for the NHL. They need to feed him slowly and build his confidence...I'm really hopefully he can translate his AHL game into the NHL. |

Friedman said today Carl Soderburg won't resign with BOS. May trade his rights. Wonder how the think tank is making out with Matthias?๐ |

I'm in agreement, Lack as of yet hasn't instilled the confidence with me as a starter. He was obviously better last year than the year before, but I'm not so sure he could handle 65-70 games in the canucks jersey, the media would chew him up and shatter what ever confidence he has gained as a back-up.
He would be better off trying to become a starter in a less frantic hockey market where there is anonymity, I like the guy but would rather ride things out with Miller for another year.

We need to trade Markstrom...His stock will never be higher. He obviously gets mental in the big leagues. The talent is there but he gets nervous and over thinks it. But in typical Van fashion we will trade Lack, bring up Markstrom, realize he still sucks, then be standing there with nothing left.
Miller was pretty solid...4 years ago. Demko is a good 3-4 years away. Markstrom is a headcase...KEEP LACK!!! He's all we have to look forward to keeper-wise right now.
BUT if we have to trade Lack...how bout this
Lack/Bieksa(if he'll waive) to Edmonton for their late 1st and a 2nd |

I think Hamuis would be more inclined to go to Edmonton than Bieksa. Dan lives in Smithers during the off-season, Edmonton is the same distance as Vancouver to that area...just a guess on my part. |

That works...both Hammer and Bieksa i think are expendable. A solid dman like Hammer and a potential starter is all EDM needs to jumpstart that decade long rebuild |
