price ya gotta pay to get rid of a bad contract. Marleau isn't totally useless. Make a better 2nd line C than Bonino. - c_roy33

Whats the point in getting Marleau?
I thought the idea was to get younger? - vancity787
Because SJ is in cap hell, they'd want to send money back if we wanted Burns (not to mention I don't think they'd consider trading Burns at this point). It was a response to someone's sarcastic trade proposal anyways. |

No Miller isn't totally useless. Came out wrong. Just a bad contract at his age |

I think if you keep Lack, Markstrom should be moved for any decent offer.
Not sure what is available among UFA's for a backup, 1 or 2 year contract. Lack should be able to handle 60+ starts. We miss the playoffs, we hold onto our picks.
and maybe Lack gets eaten alive.
I'm living in a dream world. Lack is getting moved. - hillbillydeluxe
Yeah, I reckon Lack is getting moved because he is the most movable. I'll come to terms with it, but it's pretty frustrating that for the second time in two years we are moving the better goalie because of contract BS. |

It wasn't though...Jim Benning came in cold to the franchise, they'd just come off a terrible season with Lack playing the majority of the last 40 games where they poop the bed. The first half of the season with Lu in net was actually pretty good.
During his interviews with the core of vets they asked or said they felt they needed a veteran goaltender. So Benning signs one, he plays decently enough to win 29 games, out of 45 games, during the first half of the season...and then he gets hurt.
Lack had a good 25 to 30 game stretch, does he deserve a shot, absolutely, but complaining of signing Miller is purely retrospect, based on the final 40 games this year, in my mind because Lack wasn't great the year before. - LeftCoaster

I'm not sold on Lack, at least, not to the point that I'd trust him to carry our team for 65-70 games in the regular season. So I'm fine with him moving, I'd rather move Miller and use his cap space to get a goalie that would be able to split the games with Lack for a year. |

Goalies are the least of this teams problems. Moving Miller would also make JB look foolish, unless we got into #DramaInTheNet2015 |

You must be in the mind that a couple of little moves could make us a contender.
This team is years away from being a 2011 replica. Screw Marleau. He will not help the retool or rebuild.
If we get Marleau and he lives up to the hype, He's just hindering us going forward. Its pointless.
Stick with the slow and steady rebuild/ Retool, And get young blood in the lineup when you can.

I don't think that one is head and shoulders better than the other, if anything it's a wash, although obviously Miller has more experience. But while anything can happen I think it's safe to assume that Lack will continue to grow his game next season and Miller's will continue to deteriorate.
Either way it's a moot point. I think the decision will be based less on where their games might be two years from now and more on what they can bring back today.

I agree with this all except that it still doesn't justify signing Miller to the contract he received and that was my point.
It was an unmovable contract from day one and while I'm sure Benning expected Miller to be a better goalie, he paid a lot in terms of salary, term and NTC for a player that likely was entering the end of his career.

SJ is fine for cap, they have ~18 million to resign a couple RFA's, and find a couple of depth D and a starting goalie.
That is one of the reason's people rosterbate Miller to SJ because they are one of the few teams that could afford him.....now I will be very surprised if they would go after him but they could afford his total cap hit and still have lots of room to fill their other holes. |

The only chance of that happening is if Wilson thinks that after all of their disappointments and drama this year he's not going to get to many more swings and gets Miller as one last Hail Mary, a la Gillis and Torts.
I apologize for the mixed sports metaphor. I also don't think there's a stupid enough gm left in the league to make that trade unless they are unloading an ugly contract on us as well. |

Dog days of summer. The goalie situation is a joke, and probably some well placed propaganda by JB & Co, to divert watching eyes from the real issues on the team...
