My question is, what the hell happened to Gilman? Aren't contracts his thing? Is he our version of McTavish: part of the old regime who's just kind of there, playing with crayons?
- CubanBuffet

Who knows, maybe Benning wants control of that? Hopefully he doesn't hand out anymore Sbisa contracts for that quality of player.

I just over paid for a boat because it was the only one of it's kind available at the moment. I couldnt shop for it earlier when the price was better unfortunately(spring worse time to buy boat). I took the best used boat advertised at the time though... after more detailed inspection at home... it wasnt as in good shape as I wished but it will do for now.

The truth is, I could have down scaled and spent less money but I was less sure of what was available at the time... and I didnt want my season ruined and hating myself for second guessing the boat I knew so much about.

Pretty accurate, though I like the Dorset signing better than they do.

Unless you want to give up Horvat or Virtanen + something else pretty good then it ain't happening.

Seems like every year we hear that a few of the top picks are in play but they rarely move. I think Ari would be crazy to move the 3rd as I can't see anyone paying a king's ransom for Strome/Hanafin/Marner.

I would give up Virtanen and the 23rd for 3rd but I doubt it is enough. While it may not be rational I would have a hard time moving Horvat unless we are talking McDavid, etc.

Yeah, I think you'd need to offer Horvat and the #23 for them to even consider. Virtanen + 23 is likely not enough for them to even consider.

Again, the contracts the Canucks were handcuffed to under Gillis were at least reasonably made. Ballard and Booth were considered to be decent players. Kesler had a full NTC but was/is a steal at 5M per and still had very good trade value despite demanding a trade by backing the new rookie GM into a corner. Garrison's cap hit is rock solid for a legit second pairing dman and Yzerman got a great deal for him.

Bieksa's contract sucks now but was cleverly designed so that a team with a low budget would be interested in him along with a contender. Hamhuis and the Sedins are great values. Higgins and Hansen are reasonable.

Burrows is the one that had me shaking my head a bit as soon as it was announced ely that he would begin to decline. That's the one Gillis signing I'd say wasn't thought through well enough and we could be handcuffed with.

The Luongo deal was brilliant before the new CBA.

Bold: I assume that Burrows took such a hit on the previous contract because Gillis assured him that he would get him back on the next contract. Gillis followed through, despite Burrows beginning to decline.

Underlined: again, I'm assuming here, but Luongo's deal wasn't the first to circumvent the cap and Bettman had been clear that he wasn't pleased with those type of contracts and there could be repercussions written into the next CBA. Gillis did it anyways, because A) he wasn't clear on what those repercussions might be, or B) he thought that Bettman was bluffing. Either way, I consider Luongo's contract to be squarely on Gillis's shoulders.

I'm too lazy to keep this going but I'll just say that I hope Miller and Sbisa both end up on the LTIR. I'm a horrible person which is why I liked Gillis and Kesler.

Because of the things you can't measure using shots for and against. Not saying I think it's a great signing, cause the money and term are high, just that I liked him on the team and am glad he'll be back.

I like him as well, but the guy gets his ass kicked in every fight and our record when he fights kinda sucks plus with the way he plays at his size, I don't think his body will respond well when he hits 30.

Maybe we could trade Miller and Sbisa to San Jose for Niemi, and then let him walk as a UFA?

Yeah, but I'm looking at it from those team's perspective. If I;m Buffalo, I'm taking Eichel unless someone offers me something stupidly good that will lead to the other GM becoming a laughing stock. And if I'm Arizona, I want Horvat+ or I'll take Hanifin or Marner.
