Hopefully next year when you have the boat it won't be in such bad condition that you wont be able sell it to buy a replacement, that is of course assuming that you have a specific budget set in place for all your fishing expenses.
Worst case scenario I guess is that you will have to sell off your reliable and fairly new reel at a discount just so you can buy enough bait and hooks for the season......I guess you can just use that other reel, the really shiny one that you tried using a few times but always shat the bed when you gave it a chance...... - belcherbd
If they traded for Miller, I would be upset. It cost nothing as far as assets go. Even if they take a 2nd and retain a bit of salary for the remaining year... it's a victory. No llong term threat. So what if they let some other contract go because Miller has to be paid? Oh no, another contract off the books... oh no, we may lose some games because of it. This is all short term stuff people are fretting about.
Worse case scenario... we struggle to make the playoffs over this for a couple of seasons.... which gives better draft position...
If Benning had experience and had been here through the last two seasons prior, maybe he does things differently. He's going to have to work through some mistakes like any other rookie in the hockey world. He's way ahead of Gillis in his position no matter what he does simply based on the respect he gets and no one wanting to block him out of the trade market because of past douchebaggery.... there's room to grow....
Maybe you guys think the Canucks should have went with a exp gm through this transitional period... he'd be fired before this team ever became a contender most likely... and would be looking more for a winning job to begin with. I need more than one season before I start panicking.

I like him as well, but the guy gets his ass kicked in every fight and our record when he fights kinda sucks plus with the way he plays at his size, I don't think his body will respond well when he hits 30. - Nucker101
Maybe, but he's 1000 x better then the Dutch Gretzky. |

Maybe we could trade Miller and Sbisa to San Jose for Niemi, and then let him walk as a UFA? - 1970vintage
I don't think Wilson is that stupid. |

I'm not going to lie, I'm disappointment that you didn't mention my fishing analogy once, I was feeling quite smug about it.
I agree it is Benning's first year and will make mistakes, I'm okay with that, but I that doesn't mean I won't be critical of those mistakes as I see them.

Bold: I assume that Burrows took such a hit on the previous contract because Gillis assured him that he would get him back on the next contract. Gillis followed through, despite Burrows beginning to decline.
Underlined: again, I'm assuming here, but Luongo's deal wasn't the first to circumvent the cap and Bettman had been clear that he wasn't pleased with those type of contracts and there could be repercussions written into the next CBA. Gillis did it anyways, because A) he wasn't clear on what those repercussions might be, or B) he thought that Bettman was bluffing. Either way, I consider Luongo's contract to be squarely on Gillis's shoulders. - CubanBuffet
FA had to be part of any contract like that with term and $$$. |

Probably. Maybe he just pulled out the rubber stamp because he trusted his gm or maybe he was hounding Gillis to lock him up long term. Who knows. I don't really see the point in raging against Aquillini. It's not like we can vote him out. He isn't going anywhere. |

Sbisa looks pretty concussed to me when he's on the ice. |

It will be interesting to see what happens with these deals. I wouldn't be surprised if Chicago, Detroit and Vancouver fight the NHL once Hossa, Zetterberg and Luongo retire.

God I love visiting the leaf boards and hearing what they think Kessel is worth.
My Favorite was this proposal
- Under 15 first round pick
- top 6 forward under 23
- Top 4 D-man under 25
- 2nd rounder
- 3rd rounder

Time will tell... and since these are short contracts,,, by the time we can truly say it was a costly mistake... it will already be a thing of the past. Easy mistakes to get over. People will be worrying about far greater things by then. It's going to be painful around here as this team transitions and goes through growing pains. Some are not taking it well after only 1 season which the end result was far better than they predicted. The wrong people have been called bipolar around here for years...

And I like their chances. New Jersey ended up getting the last pick in the first round that they had taken away in the Kovalchuk deal, didn't they? |

To much gear and bait talk... I'm a catch and release fly fishermen... frankly, your analogy offended my sense of conservationalist sportsmanship.

they're dealing from a position of weakness because everyone knows they want to trade him due to a rebuild. He's lazy and has zero compete level. He won't play a 200 foot game. He's due to make 10 million dollars next year. He's signed for seven more years at an 8 million cap hit.
Other than that he's a great goal scorer. - LeftCoaster
And he has a NTC. |

It depends. I keep no trout I catch on the fly... but will keep a small one or two when ice fishing. They just taste so much better in the winter. I keep all Kokanee for food and only a couple of Salmon out of the Skeena per season. I let thousands of trout go a season.
I go on 1 gear trip a season(big chinook during high water) and ice fish once or twice per season(locally). Everything else is on the fly.

In quality trout stillwaters... the trout typically taste like mud. Chironomids make up to 70% or more of their diet when the ice is off the lake. Chironomids eat mud... fish will taste like mud. In the winter when the lakes are iced over, they eat shrimp and minnows which makes for the most delicious meat.
