Ty.
I don't always see eye to eye with you but on this subject you are right on. I can not believe that people would accept letting Hamilton walk.
And on his contract, I agree 100%. Give him $6 for six years. Because if Toews and Kane are the top of the mountain at $10.5 and Subban is at $9.......in three years Hamilton will be around $10 per! |

I want Edmonton to throw 8x5 just to spite Boston for being adamant they get a pick compensation for their fired GM. What a joke. |

Its not bostons fault, they played the system to their advantage, even if it really wasn't in the way it was intended
Its the NHLs fault for not stepping in earlier and say no this isn't right and we need to fix this now instead of waiting after 4-5 new hires. |

Hamilton will prob get 6.5 for 6-7 yrs. pay a bit more now a bit less by the end. Everyone wins. Unless he declines in play, but he seems to be destined for a top pairing career.
Tough first hurdle for the new GM if other teams do attempt to poach him. |

waive the pick like Pittsburgh did for Shero
now just offer sheet Hamilton or Spooner/Connolly then Dougie and watch them enjoy that pick now! |

I'd laugh my ass off if EDM sent parallel offer sheets and BOS couldn't match. |

Rutherford did say he didn't know getting a pick for Shero at the time was an option, once other teams were doing it, he said he would have done it too.
Teams would never turn down a draft pick. |

Agreed. Just pay the guy and make it work.
Thought it was a blog well grounded in reality; particularly with addressing the downside of a bridge deal.
The other thing working against offer sheets is the compensation for draft picks is based on the total salary of the contract divided by the lesser of the contract years and 5.
Practically speaking, it leaves teams making an offer sheet to a max 3 year deal; keeping Hamilton an rfa at the end of the deal. Term that can be easily beat by the bruins. |

I don't think they will, to be honest. And when I say that, I don't think that he'll want to come back. |

Ty Anderson: Dougie Hamilton's value and offer sheets - tyanderson
I think this is pure media properganda just to get people to keep interest in them. Dougie is not going anywhere unless Boston wants to move him, which they dont. The only dmen I can see being ship out would be chara, but I just think their up for that so they will look to try and cheaping their bottom end guys. Won't sign any new flashy toys this year. |

I'd like to see Calgary make a run at him and see if he can be a solid 5D. He is wildly inconsistent, but has shown flashes of being a decent player. Also, the trade no trade for Iggy...would be an interesting side note.
Do you think he has a chance at a long term career in the league? |

He does. But he needs a team that will have a little patience with the growing pains he'll go through. It seemed like he was benched every time he made a bad play in Boston, and you understand that they were on a shorter leash given their place in the standings, but I think it hurt his overall growth as a player. He also gets in his own head a bit too much at times. I see him as a solid fourth defenseman on his best days, but a serviceable, adequately mobile third-pairing guy for a club most nights. |

What would be a fair offer for Smith? Was thinking swap 14 and 15, a low pick from Boston to compensate the cap relief, and Calgary sends Colborne or Granlund. Thoughts? He seems like he also may need a change in scenery. |
