I would let them walk then and just clear salary. If Bieksa got put on waivers how many minutes would it take for Buffalo or Edmonton to claim his 2.5 mil salary? - VANTEL
That's poor asset management, but that's what happens when your handcuffed. At least JB has experience with that part or the job. |

I would like you to give examples of players that were in the AHL that were ruined by staying in the minors too long. Detroit leaves their prospects in the minors for as long as possible and they have a 24 year post season streak. - manvanfan
Detroit does not leave their first rounders there as long as possible. They develop their long shots. How many first rounders have you ever seen that get developed until they are 23 or 24 to break into the league at 24 or 25 and become elite players??? In fact go back and look at their last 20 drafts, which first rounders besides Kronwall are top line material or top 3 D-men. They haven't had many first rounders, buuuut of the ones they have had, just as many were busts as there were that have made the nhl. Detroit has a good development system but they suck at drafting in the first round, that's probably why they trade their first rounders as often as not. |

It will become more common with salary caps. Buy outs and waivers will increase if a player can't be traded.
Mike Richards last year.
Bruins are talking of moving Chara and Chi Sharpe. LA are talking of letting some Vets walk.
I know some will be done by trades but GMs will be looking at options to move players because of long term contracts and high salaries |

Like Horvat, however WD was forced to give him a roster spot. - VanHockeyGuy
And how did it work out? Did he hold his own? And improve/develop against the best players in the world? If he went back to jrs for another year there's a chance he could have regressed. I am a firm believer that you only improve by playing against better players. I don't believe you develop (frank) all by being the big fish in a small pond. |

I give him a year in the AHL to get his shoulder prepared for the physical battles with the pros, other than that I think he deserves a shot. |

He did, WD wanted him sent down. JB and Co thought otherwise. That's what concerns me about WD.

There's a lot of bad contracts out there in the NHL right now. I agree with you in that Benning has to start pushing older players out the door, even the Sedins….yes I said even the Sedins.
Time to get their heads in the right place and accept what we can all see. Easier said than done I know, it's a process that's gonna take some time, but he'd better start it this summer! Which he's acknowledged. |

Guys like Bieksa, Higgins and Hansen have a NTC and they hold value around the league, easier to move IMO.
Players like Hamhuis, who's tightly connected to the province and city might be pretty hard to move, but hopefully Benning asks anyways.
Burrows is an effective player, but he makes 4.5 million (cap hit) which would make him difficult to move IMO.
The Sedins for all intents and purposes wouldn't accept any type of trade, but I'd still explore the idea and float it to them? |

An excellent player for a team trying to get to the cap floor because his salary is only 4 and 3 over his last two years. |

Hamhuis I don't ask. Not just because of his ties(Which is a major factor) but because of his value on the blue line. He makes his line mates and his team better. He's only 32. Unless Hammer brings back a kings ransom I don't bother. |

I love your enthusiasm! What I don't like is that because there is one exception, that everyone is the exception. If you can't play in the NHL, you don't belong. |
