you think the leafs will be eating salary for the next 7 years on both guys to move them?
doubtful. maybe a mil or so on phaneuf, but they will clearly rather take back a bad contract for a couple years - GardinerExpress
Yeah, You have to believe that the best offer they'll receive will not request them to eat any salary. Sure some offers will, but you only need one that doesn't. A bad contract, no doubt though. |

You guys need to read properly. Nowhere did I say eat, retain or hold salary. I said 'TAKE BACK' meaning a contract. Geez. |

Could the Leafs use Bernier and the 24th to get a pick in the 5-8 range? I would for sure do it, and if needed, add in more pieces. If CAR is getting rid of Ward, how about them? I know the Blue Jackets wouldn't want him. I just think they need to stick with Reimer over Bernier. He has not shown me enough to believe that he can be solid #1. Size concerns me to, and the injury history. Bernier is going to want something like 6x6 or 7x7, and how can the Leafs honestly give him that. He hasn't shown much, or any development since he has been brought in. I'm just thinking, why not ride out Reimers last year on his contract, and if he does good, improves rebound control, then great! Not saying Reimer is out future #1, but why take that risk with Bernier? Maybe get a mid round pick and take Samsonov. He looks great. If they can get Bernier at something like 2 years, 4 million then fine. No need to give him a monster contract. |

Bernier was worth a 3rd and a mediocre prospect. How the hell can he be the difference between the 24 and 5-8 picks? If he was that good, he would be extended for 7 years at 6mil. |

In what world would Bernier get, let alone ask for, 7x7 or even 6x6? He's not getting more than 4.5 on a short term deal. Reimer hasn't proven anything either by the way, except that he chokes when it matters most. |

Bernier will be asking for #1 money..
I don't think Reimer has, I would just prefer him over Bernier. |

I don't think he will. There's simply nothing there to support it. I think he knows he's not worth that yet. His numbers don't show he's worth anything near that and he's an RFA. He doesn't have much leverage. Bridge deal likely coming. |

I agree. This leaf team failed because the goalies didn't compete as hard as the rest of the club. Where was Bernier when he was facing 40 shots a game and his team was working their tails off to muster in the mid 20s. The guy isn't worth a 6th, let alone a 3rd. The guy is about as unproven as a virgin sex organ until he can play behind a team willing to compete and give their goalies a fighting chance. But hey, he sucks because he couldn't piss out a forest a fire. I guess since Phaneuf got that contract, you feel he's that good?
So JVR can't be worth more than a bust defensive Dman? Wtf is up with this logic broski? |

Bernier can ask for $1,000,000 a game, doesn't mean anything. He'll take what he's given or he'll be moved out. As for Samsonov, I'd temper expectations where he's concerned. As great as you think he looks it's probably as great as people thought Bernier looked once upon a time. |

Goalies as a rule are worth very little for what they actually are, so I don't get what you are saying. If you were the Flyers, would you trade your 7th pick for the 24th and Bernier? Would the Devils or the Jackets? They all have their own starters they are happy with. The Sharks are the only team that makes sense in that regard, but they need the early pick more than anybody. Bernier is worth a lot to the Leafs and almost nothing to the league in comparison. |

This great Hedman slap pass they keep showing, Dion made the exact same play to Tim Brent a few years ago. I think it was against Carolina. Great plays by both. |
