The Buffalo Sabres are waiting to see if there's validity to the speculation that soon-to-be restricted free agent Mikhail Grigorenko is signing a contract in the KHL.
Grigorenko, 21, is coming out of his three-year, entry-level contract with the Sabres, having played 25 NHL games this past season and 68 over the last three seasons. The Sabres initially indicated to the player at season's end they wanted to re-sign him but, for now anyway, were not prepared to give him a one-way contract.
There has since been talk Grigorenko will opt to return home to Russia and take a more lucrative offer in the KHL rather than contest for a spot on the Sabres on a two-way contract next season.

Someone on another sight said his parents both live in Quebec now so if he goes back to Russia it probably won't be for long. 2 years maybe.
Perhaps his agent is getting the word out that he may sign with the KHL because the Sabres are still offering a 2 way deal and wants to get the Sabres to move on a trade. |
|
|
|
I'm not sure why there is a bg deal with the one way and two way deal since he'd have to clear waivers to get sent down to Rochester which he never would. Just give him the one way deal. |

As if losing his waiver exemption didnt hurt his value enough. |

You don't think that Kolvachuk (sp?) thing might sour them on the KHL threat? - jochfr
i dont think he actually wants to go there, but hed rather get playing time there than benched here. if hes dealt to a team that gives him the minutes i bet re-signs |

Paul Hamilton thinks the Sabres are going to waive him. I doubt that happens but I think Grigo is getting a little fed up with the Sabres not committing to his development |

They just messed it up. He should have went to junior for 2 years instead of wasting his time in the nhl. |

This anvil lands on Darcy's head only. He pressured Lindy to keep him here in the short season, sent him back too late. Then did it again.
This is the absolute correct way to screw up a players development. |

It's both IMO.
If he would have stayed in Juniors, stayed in Rochester, he'd still be considered a very good prospect. He has produced in Rochester and improved, it's just up to him to take the next step, and up to the Sabres to finally put him in a position to |

They way he played the last half of the season is him finally being developed correctly. If this was done right this would only be he 2nd year on his ELC. He would be proving he belongs in this league but Darcy screwed it up. |

Yep. This is purely on Darcy.
I'm fine with drafting him, considering we got Girgensons 2 picks later, but he was handled so poorly |

People see how Girgensons was able to make the transition but he plays a completely different game. It didn't take a grizzled NHL veteran scout to see Girgorenko didn't have the footwork or speed to make the jump right away to the show. |

Which is why I have to laugh at the notion that all good players should be ready to go at 18,19 years old. There are a ton of guys that don't hit their stride until 22-23. Especially if they are in a bad situation. |

It all depends on each individual player.
I do think Reinhart will be ready this season, but with the situation the team was in last year, they players he was playing with and the coach putting him in not the best situations, returning him to juniors was the smart thing to do.
Eichel is ready if he turns pro. |

At the time they didn't envision tanking for another centre so as far as the future was concerned it was really just him and girgensons. I remember that 2013 team was planning on a playoff spot, only when poop really hit the fan did we commit to the rebuild.
Mishandling him probably killed a lot of his trade value, but once the rebuild began even if they handled him right i think he still would've been on the outside looking in. |

For a comparable to Reinhart, Ryan Johansen didn't impress until his 3rd pro year |

True but Johnasen was as touted as Reinhart. Even so I think Reinhart will show more this year |
