In the last four NHL seasons, only Claude Giroux, Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, and John Tavares have more points than Kessel's 275.
Not bad for being a lazy floater.
Edit: Stamkos would be on that list if not for his one injured season. |

Leafs at the very least would want a legit top pairing defensemen coming their way, which Philly doesn't have.
I don't think Kessel is worth the headache. Think about it. Does Philly seem like the right market for a guy a lazy as he is? Fans and media would rip this guy a new one. - MatveiDmitrii
So lazy that he's roughly a point per game forward since 2011.
I get that he is by no means a great defensive forward but good god, does every player in the league need to be Johnathan Towes to be considered an effective player?

For $8M, yes they do. |

Exactly.
If their was no cap then the Flyers could realize use what Kessel brings but since their is a cap and Jake needs to be resigned I dont know that it could work. |

Ovechkin was considered just as lazy, how many times was he torched for leaving the ice against a breakaway so he didn't get the added minus? - puckhead17
I'm not denying Kessel's ability to put the puck in the net. I'm not giving up this year's first and some prospect and/or someone in the vein of a Simmonds to get the guy. |

A few things that interest me about Phil Kessel. His ability to shoot the puck. We don't have this. He's a gamer, he has the ability and desire to work hard, which would result in wins if he had more support around him. He is at a decent age still.
With this said, he would be a luxury to this team, not a need. The price would be too high and his price tag is already high. I think Hextall would have to go back on everything he's working towards to get Phil Kessel. Hopefully we can draft a Phil Kessel. - SuperSchennBros
Kessel does NOT show desire to work hard. He can shoot the puck. He is not an 8M player, and his contract is not something the Flyers want when they are about to sign Jake

It depends on the package, that's for sure.
I think if Homer were still GM there would be more of a chance of this happening.
It does bother me, (a little), that Schenn's game took off when switched to RW.
The last position we need him to play, with 2 top 6 RW's already.
Would you give up the picks for a Saad, or Hamilton offer sheet?
(providing we could clear some cap space). |

I'm not sure what picks they would involve, (next years draft?)
What is it, a first, & third for a $5M offer sheet? |

This past season we were:
Goals For: 215 (22nd of 30), Goals Against: 234 (24th of 30)
I'm not one to say we need 3 or 4 new defenseman, I think we need a top pairing D man, and another top 6 scoring forward, (LW).
I think both are a need, not just the one.

Saad yes. Younger and cheaper.
I like Dougie and we need defensive help badly. I don't know who I'd pair him with. |

I think who to pair him with would be a nice problem to have.
I have a feeling both of these players will get an offer sheet from someone.
With the cap issues Boston, and Chicago are having, I can't see any team worrying about karma biting them in the a$$ for doing it. |

http://www.sportsnet.ca/h...a-hot-commodity-at-draft/
Damien Cox’s mock draft has Dylan Strome going here. That’s what other teams expect as I write this.
And then things open up.
“What happens next,” said one team’s draft guru, “will be determined by who really wants defencemen.”
Three separated themselves from the rest: Hanifin, Brandon’s Ivan Provorov and Michigan’s Zach Werenski. Damien has Provorov going fourth to Toronto, and that didn’t come as a shock to a few execs and scouts I asked. Hanifin is fifth to Carolina, Werenski eighth to Columbus.
There are two teams picking later in the Top 10 who are seen to have a strong desire for defencemen — Columbus and Colorado (choosing 10th). Philadelphia (seventh) and San Jose (ninth) are looking for defenders at the NHL level, but it’s not certain if that’s what they want in the draft.
But this is where the first-round intrigue begins.
“It’s starting to happen,” said the executive quoted above. “Teams who want defencemen are phoning the teams ahead of them, laying the groundwork in case they need to move.”
The question is: who is willing to move back? |

No long term big contracts at this point unless it's a #1 Dman. Getting rid of these expensive longer term deals is a big piece to a brighter future. - jstross

If a team were to offer up a deal to move to 7 to get Provorov or Hanifan, I'd be all ears. And I'd pull the trigger if it wow'd me.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to move too far back in the first. But if it is in the middle of the first where I would still have a shot at Meir or Svenchikov, hell yeah. |
