Kessel is a streaky player who is very lazy, Iginla brought a physical element to his game. Cannot compare the two. I would take Iginla at 27 over Kessel any day!
- 3flyerkids

So let me get this right, because Iginla was a more physical player at 27, the two player's situations cannot be compared? Iginla was better then Kessel at 27, no question but the situation are very much the same when Jerome Iginla played in Calgary to Kessel playing in Toronto today. Kessel is on island in Toronto and has been for years. This season was a down season for Phil Kessel but anytime before this year, he would come up just shy of 40 goals pretty much playing by himself. This is evidence that he is far from a lazy player.

This should be plan A for the Flyers

It seems to be Hextall's plan if he sticks to his keeping their picks & prospects. To do what some are suggesting is pretty close to what they did for a long time under previous GM's

Agreed. Unless someone blows them away for a deal for 7. Even then, I would rather only move back as far as a mid round pick.

I haven't chimed in one way or the other, but I'd be against the flyers trading for him. I would also prefer Suter, but I'm a huge jake fan.

i would be against the pens trading for him too (same from a flyers perspective).

but there are numerous factors at play in that evaluation, not just an oh hes lazy so nah im good.

Would not want him at 8M per year for another 6 years. No thanks!
I want a guy that will play a 200 ft game for that kind of coin. Watch a Leaf game. The guy doesn't even back check, which was evident time after time this year.
Yes, he can score, but he is not a player I would want on the Flyers.
His act has worn thin in Toronto that is why he will be traded

16 and Eberle for 7. Draft Svenchikov.

Good draft. Let's eat.

I watch Toronto Games all the time. As a Winger and the best player for his team, he's not center dependent as most wingers are. The fact remains, he plays with nobody and knocks on the door of 40 goals most seasons. Calling him lazy is ridiculous. Seriously, did I just dream up Phil Kessel's performance during the Olympics while playing with actual talent?

i think hes a very good player.

but its a tough situation. i dont think he is good enough to where he can ever be the best player on a cup winning team.

and at that contract, it will be hard to have players better than him on the roster.

even if you discount the fact that assets will need to be given to acquire him, (and the cost will be hefty), absorbing him isnt really possible for a team with either a duo of crosby and malkin or giroux and voracek on his next deal.

I don't want Phil Kessel. There isn't a fit with him on the Flyers before or after a deal. I don't like his contract, I think Ron Hextall has already ruled out those types of deals.

With all of this said, I think it's asinine to call Phil Kessel a lazy player or downplay how good he is on a bad team. If Phil Kessel were playing with Sidney Crosby, Claude Giroux, Ryan Getzlaf, Joe Thornton, Pavel Datsyuk or Nicklas Backstrom, he'd be 10 times better then he already is.

Nicely said and totally agree.

It's ignorant to just leave out how good he is when his teams top center is Tyler Bozak. Every year this out of shape, lazy player routinely scores 30 goals. Put him with a legit center and I think he is knocking on 45-50

FWIW:

•Adam Vingan: Predators GM David Poile said he’s not committed to sending qualifying offers to all of his five RFAs: Colin Wilson, Craig Smith, Calle Jarnkrok, Taylor Beck and Gabriel Bourque.

I didn't know if any of these guys would have interest to the Flyers the same way Del Zotto did as a low risk type.

If Kessel is as good as you say he is the Leafs will find someone for him to play with.
They won't just trade their star. For 64M, I want someone who can play a little more of a complete game.

Exactly.

No one questions Kessel's ability to hang points.

What's he doing for you (besides eating donuts by the fistful) if he's not scoring, though?
