There was a game on either NBCSports Network or the NHL Network this year where Vanek fanned on a shot, and then got a penalty for tripping without taking a stride. I laugh every time I think about it. - buffalofan19
That was his MO.
Sulk, make a stupid penalty, and vanish for the next 10 games. |

That something is Claude Julien. Remember, he coached New Jersey for a while. He's a Jacques Lemaire disciple. - buffalofan19

If I'm given the choice of Vanek or Nash, I'm taking Nash every time with no hesitation. - HonkFortheGoose
Thats just it, we weren't suggesting Vanek over Nash, but it does go to 89's point that both players are paid like Top Players that STEP their GAME up a NOTCH in the playoffs.
Neither Do. Nash's 10 goals in 60 games is Taking a HUGE step back when in the Playoffs.
The great 8 Million Players know how to shift to another gear in the Playoffs.
I don't hate the player, but lets not make him into something he isn't. If he was younger, I would trade a tremendous amount to get him, even if it was for his regular season success. But these posters that think his value is as high now as it was when the Rangers acquired him, are wrong. |

I'll worry about the playoffs when we actually have a shot at making it there. In the meantime, I would love to have a guy on my team than can put 40 in the back of the net.

Vanek and Nash produced similarly in the playoffs 32 and 34 points. The major difference is Nash still makes his presence known if he isn't scoring, Vanek just disappears.
Btw I can't believe we are talking about playoff production as a reason to not trade for a guy. This team just finished last in back to back years.
Given Nash's contract with 3 years left he would be a perfect guy to have. If in 3 years he still has it he turns into a Hossa like player for the Sabres. If you don't want him trade him at the deadline.
The issue here is what would you give up for him? I would rather give up Zadorov and 21st for him than ROR. |

The thing about the Sabres right now is that they're a long ways off from having to worry about it.
If, hypothetically, the Sabres were to land Rick Nash, his contract will be over by the time the Sabres really start to make a run as a contender. If he's a dud, you walk away. This is why length of contract is every bit as important as the player himself when you're talking about adding to a team like that. Any skill player with 3 years or less should be seen as gold at this point. - buffalofan19

Like I said before he could end up being our version of Hossa in year 2 or 3.
Imagine him as your 3rd best forward, someone with that talent |

I've been in the get Loui corner for a while now.
Take on the Savard contract for floor purposes and I bet you can get him cheap. - dadeadhead
This is basically where I was about to go, Stripes. His value has diminished a lot and he's still under 30 with a very good contract. Of course, I'm wary of what I'd have to fork over. But if the price is right, which it very well could be.. I totally take a stab at it. |

You are severely over rating Zadorov and under rating Nash if you wouldn't give up Zadorov for him IMO |

If I can land him without giving up Eichel, Girgensons, Reinhart, or Ristolainen, I'm listening to the offer. Again, we're talking about Glen Sather here, the guy that gave up Callahan AND two firsts for Martin St. Louis. It may not take as much to get him as you might think. |

We can barely get a guy with 40 points but we don't want a guy that can score 40 goals, kills penalties and plays good defense. I wouldn't give up the farm for him but if the price is right I make that trade every day. |

I would call on both Eriksson and Lucic (Obviously not together). Take Savards contract back to help lessen the value of what you are giving up in return. |

Absolutely. Draft defense at 21. Look to sign Oduya or maybe someone else |

Not only do I say "yes", I rush to complete the trade before the NHL can nix it citing that Glen Sather is no longer mentally competent enough to perform his duties as General Manager of the New York Rangers. |

Not me....I would LOVE to see NASH on Echiel's WING!
As I stated earlier, if we up the anti and include Yandle, only then will I move Big Z.

So you are saying it would take
Yandle and Nash (To top players at their positions)
to land

But not straight home to Buffalo after.
We fly over ROR's house so Nash can empty the plane's toilet on it. |
