So the Kings only have $4.8m in cap space (right now), so I say if you are going to offer sheet Toffoli, you do it ASAP and force them to trade players or something "stupid" or lose him. If you give them more time to "figure it out" then they will match. You could offer Toffoli like $4m/year for 5 years (not sure if he would want more) and they will currently have a real tough time matching without moving a few players. (any team can only be 10% over the cap, including LTIR during the summer, players can't go on LTIR until games start, so going after teams that are close to that is key)

Or you just go after Justin Williams as UFA and overpay a bit for 2-3 year deal and move on.

If you are going to offer sheet the "best" player available, you go for Tarresanko, but St Louis will have to match basically no matter what, but he did produce in the playoffs (maybe the only Blue who did? lol) so he would be worth it.

Let's go Buffalo!

You can't give any player an offer sheet until after July 1st, right?

I think this whole offer sheet thing is getting blown way out of proportion. I doubt it happens. We hear this every year, and then nothing.

Yup. Yes, it's something that is available for GMs to use, but they very rarely do and in the end it's not worth it as most of the time the team matches and retains the player.

Completely. 1% chance of us doing it and 99% chance of the team matching (100% for guys like Hamilton, Tarasenko, Taffoli).

I think it's earlier than opening night. I believe its sometime just after training camp starts. I believe it's set that way so that the teams that have players that will be on LTIR (Boston and Philly) have the time to put the players through their Medical evals and such.

This year, though, you have quite a few teams up against the Cap. Somebody with a relatively big name is going to get signed to an offer sheet by some team this year. I can guarantee it.

Any of the players that people keep mentioning around here (Toffoli, Jones, Tarasenko, Saad) are all going to have their team match. The team will figure out a way to make them fit.

It's very possible that some other off the radar type of guy gets signed to one. Whoever it was last night that mentioned Grigorenko being a candidate, could be onto something.

Besides, there are teams up against the cap every year. It's not something new and exclusive this year. It's a bit tighter than normal because the cap didn't go up the way most expected it to.

Not under the cap, but that have to be within 10% over (and that includes LTIR) during the summer.

Not to mention that more than likely most of these teams that are in cap trouble will probably manage to swing some trades at the draft. Happens every year.
