that 10% over is enough for them to match for the moment then - homiedclown
Right. Best case is to do what the Isles did is try to acquire secondary guys after a team hits the cap. That said, I think half the teams in the league are going to be waiting for that to happen.

Any of the players that people keep mentioning around here (Toffoli, Jones, Tarasenko, Saad) are all going to have their team match. The team will figure out a way to make them fit.
It's very possible that some other off the radar type of guy gets signed to one. Whoever it was last night that mentioned Grigorenko being a candidate, could be onto something.
Besides, there are teams up against the cap every year. It's not something new and exclusive this year. It's a bit tighter than normal because the cap didn't go up the way most expected it to. - HonkFortheGoose
I think if a trade offer came the Kings' way (from, say, ahem, Buffalo), Jones could be on the move.
But, the rest of them? Yes. You are correct. Those teams will never allow those players to be poached.
If GMTM plays his cards right he should be able to get some good value deals at the draft. Lots of teams up against the cap and lots of teams looking to get the second 1st we got. I have faith we will add another top 6 forward by the start of next season. Who would have thought we would have Kane, Eichel, Reinhart, 3 years ago??? I mean come on we are looking really really good already

I think it's earlier than opening night. I believe its sometime just after training camp starts. I believe it's set that way so that the teams that have players that will be on LTIR (Boston and Philly) have the time to put the players through their Medical evals and such. - HonkFortheGoose

I would LOVE TARASENKO, but no way in HELL will St Louis get rid of such a young SUPERSTAR like him.
I agree with HOMIE and say we go after STEEN. A very underrated player capable of 30 GOALS and known for his two-way PLAY. Not to mention a reasonable CAP-HIT. - CaptainRivet
Please don't make this a thing. My head hurts after a WHILE
Yes, I heard that as well. I doubt they're looking to move Quick at the moment though. No reason they can't keep him and Jones right now. - HonkFortheGoose

Blake Wheeler! - TheSabresTaco
He would work. We need another top 6 RW, his cap hit is more manageable than a guy like Nash. The better question here, is why would Winnipeg trade him?

they won't trade him, only proven RW under contract
