I would love to see it drop to 68, maybe GM's would stop handing out ridiculous contracts.
There was a lot of speculation months ago that there was potential that the cap would drop or stay the same and yet Bettman continued to claim it would rise at the same growth as last year.
The players can't be too stoked that they have been handing back 12%, 14% and then 16% of their salary over the last 18 months.
A lot of fanfare was made of the Sedin's donating 1.5 million to the BC Childrens Hospital when they signed their 5 year 30.5 million deals in 2010.
Last season alone they would of donated ~ 2 million back to the league between the two of them.... how generous. - belcherbd
it's hard for me to feel sorry for the players given they insisted on having their salaries tied to the league numbers and we had to go through yet another lockout.

So do the Coaches, Scouts, GM's. 40/1 Suggests the same result as the past season, or hopefully worse. Could you imagine the squirming those guys will do at their next Town Hall meeting when someone points out how the team is viewed by the oddsmakers! Remember Aquilini is very concerned about public perception, insulting odds like this fuel the fire. As they should. - VanHockeyGuy
I would love to hear some honest player/team assessments from the group and compare that with the perception on this board.
Sometimes I get the feeling the group still doesn't want to tinker too much with the core, for some crazy reason. and that leaves tinkering with the guys that should be pushing for bigger roles or are established and on the upswing- Kassian, Bonino, Kenins, Corrado, Clandening more so than trading a core player like Higgins, Burrows, Bieksa, Sbisa, etc.
I am not sure if Vrbata will be asked to waive, great addition, but would love to see that expiring asset turned into a pick or prospect if we aren't winning the cup. Wouldn't be against moving Edler either for the right deal. |

These odds are based on last seasons rosters more or less. No teams have gone through the draft day trade market, the draft itself and the entire summers worth of free agent signing. Why would any GM's squirm over these odds. Imagine what they will look like Oct 1st,,,, much different.
Not to mention only a brain dead season ticket holder is looking at excellent odds at winning the cup right now. Nobody in their right mind is thinking Benning should have built a contender by now... one season in. What the (frank) hahaha

If 40:1 is realistic, and it is, why did we extend Dorsett and Sbisa?
The obvious answer this question is "we needed to in order to drop to 40-1 odds"
Benning is smart. He know Aquilani wont let him tank so he signs Sbisa to an extension and Keeps Miller and will probably keep KB as well. If we cant tank by shipping players out then we will tank by keeping players here and rewarding them with ridiculous contract extensions. |

I'll admit, I am far from an expert on this but aren't you talking about the cap being tied to league numbers?
The players are paid their salary but ownership holds back a portion of that (12, 14, 16 % etc) for escrow.
That means that if the owner are not getting paid their amount stipulated in the CBA, they can take that out of the players salaries.
Players salaries don't go up when the league is making money but they do lose when the league is losing money. The owners make their cut no matter what. |

So after the 16% Sbisa is making $3,024,000, seems more reasonable. |

A Hawks fan came in last blog and politely said we have some good pieces, but we will not compete until the Sedins are gone and leadership changes.
IMO he is bang on. Waiting for the Sedins to retire is just slowing the process. They are very good players but that is a big chunk of change to be spent on leadership that is getting old and sedate mannered.
I want my leaders to be pissed at every loss. I don't want to hear we played well enough to win. I want teams to hate coming to play the Canucks because they are going to know they have been through a battle.
Most visiting teams look forward to their trip to Vancouver, and that is just wrong.
Dorsett put his heart on his sleeve every shift. Sbisa was brutal some games but he made sure every opponent kept their head up. The rest of our D no one ever bothered to worry about.
You need to have team as Coach Q said last night , you need high end talen , speed and grit. We really have none of that last year aside from the twins |

....until you realize that it is going into aquaman's pocket, while he also will try to justify higher prices because owners are losing money in this financial climate. |

I agree with all of what you said, but the Sedin's are the only high end talent this team has had in awhile, this team gets worse without them not better as some suggest.
