Carolina would never give up Hanifin or Strome or Marner just to lose three years of Semin. - Feanor

Creative, somewhat realistic, and arguably worthwhile for both teams. I'm sure the Canes would much rather give up the 93rd or the 96th than the 66th, but there's a framework there. And they'd be saving at least $5m.
Raleigh is the type of low-key, place an old married guy like Vinny should be OK moving to for the last years of his career. - Feanor
I'd do it w/o the pick, tbh. |

Vinny (post-July 1 bonus payout) to the Canes for Semin (salary retained at $4.5M/per equal to Vinny's deal) and the 66th-overall pick.
Cane's save real $: Vinny's backdiving deal + $2.5M they retained on Semin > $21M.
Flyers turn a superfluous C into a LW'er who can still play when he wants to. And they add a high-ish pick. - Tomahawk
Hell, I'd move the 29th, one of the 3rds and Luke for the 5th and Semin, in a heartbeat. I just doubt Carolina does
I'd also do the deal you describe |

Can we just make it clear that a top 5 pick will not be traded to the Flyers unless a player like couts, Simmonds, jake or sanheim is going the other way. |

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that not a single pick in the top-10 gets moved this year, but not for lack of interested buyers. |

I would, too, although I think losing one of their two 3rd rounders would be worth $5m to Carolina. |

Yes, but Buffalo has the cap space to take on a bad contract or two. The Flyers don't. - jmatchett383
I think the Flyers should be specifically targeting teams trying to move above the cap floor. I'm really hoping Hextall's ego doesn't trump a bad move. If the Flyers can move both Lecavalier and Umberger, we can finally move forward to the next phase of this "Master Plan". |

I might move Simmonds if I can get 5. Depends who is still on the board. |

I think one will get moved, but it will be for another high (top 15) pick and a still very good, but expensive, player from a team that needs cap help |

There aren't that many trades in the NHL draft. There are a lot more player for picks trades though.
If I were a GM, I'd probably move around a lot. |

I think his ego is ok. I think ego would have been spending the money to get Babcock if he wanted. I think he has a plan. Hakstol wasn't brought here to be a quick 1 year fix. |

I dunno tho... it's not really a secret that Vinny is shot now.
It may be more about the Flyers ostensibly paying the Canes $5M to take a corpse in return for an (even more) overpaid malcontent with a pulse. |

Let's stay where we are a 7th and be happy where we are in the draft within the top 10. Tampa's pick if a different story. If the Oilers are serious about moving the 16th pick and the Red Wings are serious about moving the 19th pick, kick ties. Make the most of a deep draft without hurting the team. |

I think one gets moved. I am starting to wonder what AZ will do. So many holes and problems with that team and organization now. Would they move 3 for more assets? |

Money really shouldn't be an issue when choosing a Coach, especially if you have it. Coaches don't count against the cap and Snider's pockets aren't exactly empty. In fact, the GM makes the hire but the money really comes from the owner when it comes to coaching hires. |

Simmonds, 29, Hagg and 2015 3rd rounder for number 3? Then you get to pick at 3 and 7 |

I'd be more inclined to move players for more picks than move down in the draft. |

I think Phoenix stands pat and takes Marner. I do think, however, that the Maple Leafs will trade down to get Rantanen. |
