Gachenyuk is a non-starter. Sorry. - soad_live
says you
So you think the Habs get Kessel and give up 20 timbits and 4 xlarge coffee's?
Gally or Gallagher or you guys can continue getting beat in the 1st couple rounds of the playoffs...Habs need scoring and they actually need a D too I believe...but if you could get Kessel for Gally I think it would give you 2 dangerous lines
Kessel line
Patches line
Now if you could just get Shea Weber you'd be a contender

So, in a bidding war mode, a rebuilding team will say no to a rival even if he proposed the best package??
I can't believe that. The success of a franchise should be more important than a singulary rivalry. - soad_live
Not so much that Montreal is a rival, more that Toronto would be facing Kessel 6 times a season. Same applies to any divisional rival. |

We sure as hell don't need a D. We have like 8 of them that can play in the NHL right now.
And if you think a 1st roud pick + top prospect like Sherback or McCarron + serviceable player + lower pick or prospect = 20 timbits and 4 xlarge coffee's, then that's your problem.
It's always the same with any Toronto trade proposals. Everyone (including most Leafs fans) say "We will never be able to trade player X, he sucks and/or is overpaid too much", but as soon as someone say "hey I think maybe we could use him" then suddenly they ask for the moon ... |

If you are serious about rebuilding, isn't that a good thing ? Give you more chance to get better draft picks. |

the moon?
Where did I ask for the moon...Gally for Kessel is not the moon IMO.
Not sure why the duh comes in ...unless you are talking about the Habs taking zero off the roster and landing Kessel?
Whatever dream all you want about landing Kessel for some unproven and unwanted assets...I just cant see it happening..sorry about posting a more reasonable trade. |

That's why we say, in that case forget it. We are trying to ADD to our offence, switching one of our best an cheapest offensive player (and the one with the most potential) for another player doesn't help here. |

I guess Gally puts up some good #'s for a young guy...I just wouldnt give up a top 5 scorer for some maybes and some throw aways.

No team would do it. Check the last couple of trades for big name players. |

Who are these big name players?
I let you know if it's the same scenario.
Kessel is not Spezza IMO not even close.
Look what Dallas got for forward Loui Eriksson and prospects Reilly Smith, Matt Fraser and Joe Morrow - they got Seguin
Look at what the Rangers got for Marian Gaborik from the New York Rangers in exchange for center Derick Brassard, right wing Derek Dorsett and defenseman John Moore.
Pretty good return IMO

Sure we want to lose...but I don't think they want to give up assets so the Habs can win
The league already did you guys some 22 favours in the olden days...I think the Hab favours have come to an end |

After seeing Kessel's list, I think I got it. I found the solution! Ready? Okay, here goes.....
To NYR: Phil Kessel
To TOR: Marc Staal, JT Miller OR Kevin Hayes, Tanner Glass, 2nd (#59), 2016 3rd
Then....
To CAR: Marc Staal, Tyler Bozak
To TOR: #5, Alex Semin, 2016 2nd, Ron Hainsey OR JM Liles
Everyone is happy. |
|
|
|
That list basically gives him a full no trade clause.

Except the Rangers and Carolina.
So Carolina has to throw in #5 so Toronto takes Semin, but Kessel who is 1 notch above Semin brings in assets? |

Sure, if every notch separates a top 10 scorer in his prime and a washed up waste of cap space. |
