So this article is about Zaitsev. Sure, but also the transfer agreement. At the end of the article, it says that the NHL and KHL could come to an agreement for players to be transferred while potentially compensating the team or a per-player basis. blah blah -whatever.
Does this boil down to the leafs, potentially, with their dollar might, to be able to buy people out of the KHL? You see teams like Boston and the Yankees spending like 50mil to talk to certain Japanese players, could this be a thing?
Buy, Kovalchuk......after we finish last for a couple years, obviously. |

well maybe the Leafs buy Kovalchuk to ensure they finish last... he did a pretty good job of that in Atlanta.

If yoy wanted to trade Bernier, I'm sorry, but i could never let you near the organization i love so dearly. - walshyleafsfan
anyone not named Rielly is trade bait.
wanting to hold onto Bernier for whatever emotional reason is exactly the mind-set that got the Leafs into having lock of Phaneuf for more than he's worth, what caused the Leafs to over pay players and give them NTC/NMC over the years.
if a team is willing to pay a good price for Jonathan "call me Nelson" Bernier... you move him. |

And of course Kovalchuck's first choice in the NHL would be the Leafs. |

Nope. Wanting to hold into a guy like Bernier, is akin to wanting to hold on to the very few decent players we have. Whether or not he knows Mandela from Mother Teresa, i give a (frank) not. I don't need this guy teaching my kids anything. I don't need this guy running my health service, and i certainly don't need this guy running my finances. What i need him to be is a good NHL goaltender. And that is exactly what he is.
Rielly, will be the next victim, so lets not get emotional and buy him time. Get rid of him as well. Let's just rinse and repeat with any player that actually shows he can play the game, and let's keep loving the (frank) out of Komarov, Panik, Holland and Sill. |

Reilly and Bernier at different points in career compared to their age, and no, saying Bernier is a dime a dozen, doesn't mean one has to think Reilly also is a dime a dozen... |
