Kessel alone would get more than that package - the_eye
I think his value is diminished because teams know we want rid of him (and others) ASAP |

Meh. We're poop for 5 years anyways. That's why we want JB out.
Plus we get a 1st round draft pick to pin our hopes on. - walshyleafsfan
Wild's Backstrom Could Be Bought Out
(5/11/15) Niklas Backstrom could have his contract bought out by the Wild this summer, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. |

then the Leafs should be getting next years first also, for a worse Koivu contract |

I don't think the Leafs can aggressively look to trade these players while looking for full value. |

What happens if the Leafs accept a fairly weak offer? Is that better than prolonging the agony? |

I think if the Leafs trade both Phaneuf and Kessel to MINN they could get half the Wild' roster back. If Leafs retain some salary maybe all of the Wild roster. With the exception of Cooke obviously. |

I don't mean to be insulting here... but isn't this quite simple?
Both teams in a trade can either accept or not accept the offer. By default if you accept the offer you believe to be fair under whatever circumstances apply.
I don't believe any GM/Team is going to say "we're opening our phones for the next 30 minutes"... first trade proposal wins!
If they get a decent offer for Kessel/Phaneuf or whoever they chose to take it or not. It really isn't that complicated. |

And there's always all the other teams competing with each other as well, over time. People can say what they want, Kessel is a weapon and if I was one of the contending teams I'd be nervous about a rival finding a way to add him to their roster. Add the big gun now to go over top and deal with the cap headache later. |

No, I worded it like some sort of dummy, my bad. I mean once it's obvious to the players they are being shopped, if the great deals don't come flooding in...should the Leafs settle at some point or keep them? Even if it's until next summer? Or just move on with the rebuild with the best offer of the summer? |

He's also competing as an asset now with Sharp and Nash. Not saying he isn't the best of the bunch, but there is an impact there, no? |

Kessel I would not settle for
Bozak and Phaneuf I would probably just take the best offer I can and walk away.

If a good team adds kessel, and he can go in and not have to be "the guy", division rivals would be worried.
EX. NYI gets phil to play with kessel. Lee-Tavares-Kessel would be a filthy line |

Probably gonna keep kessel then. they know what his value is, and what they expect for him. They are not gonna accept a desperate deal a-la Vanek to Montreal.(2nd + mid prospect) |
