I've never really looked too deeply into the stats but its weird that everyone says its a free wheeling league where guys can score at will yet there are half a dozen goalies with sub 2 GAA and SV% in the mid 90's
Maybe they fudge stats? - Iggysbff
There's a giant myth out there that European hockey is so superior to North American hockey - it's all about skill over size, the play is at such a higher level, the big ice makes for a more free-wheeling, skilled game, blah blah blah.
Anyone who's played on international ice for five minutes knows that all the statements above are crap. Large ice slows the game down. It gives players a lot more time to make decisions. There's less turnovers, as you can always just leisurely skate the puck to the sides, and nobody pursues you.
Take a look at the scoring averages for the Euro leagues vs. the North American leagues. It will surprise you.
And my other favourite little tidbit: "Euro leagues can go 7-8 minutes without a whistle!"
Yeah, that's because teams can rag the puck for minutes on end, without ever getting a scoring opportunity or shot on net. |

Exactly!
It's to the point we'd have reservations about Toews, Crosby and Tavares ffs. |

First team all star last year in KHL
so thats something
1 into the KHL = Kozun
1 out of the KHL = Zaitsev
Leafs 1
KHL 0 - Lucas Neilson
I wonder if zaitsev will be as good as kontiola?
People were excited about him! |

Ya, so far it's not looking too bad but only like 12 guys are out there. Buddy was bouncing a ball off the the fairway like he was bouncing it on asphalt.... - aminnes
I'm just glad Mike Weir isn't there to embarrass himself.
I really loved that guy. Somebody needs to convince him to hang 'em up. |

Sorry man, couldn't resist
Yeah, KHL success =/= NHL success, but it's always nice to be able to pluck some of the guys from the top end and give them a chance... especially when all it costs is a bit of cash and some time in a season where we have zero expectations regardless... - lumlums
It's Iggy, and it is a conversation related to the Leafs. By default he will have something bad to say about it.
I have no idea how or why he is still here. He negatively impacts any conversation involving the Leafs, every time, every day.

I'm having a hard time thinking of a guy who has come from the KHL and had been even half-way decent in the NHL.
It's a crap league. - Atomically Wedgie

That blows. We are in a big tourney next month here in town with all of the Hockey players from around the area, plus a few brought in to help. It is a fund raiser for the local hockey program. Should be fun. Lots of players to meet.
I wonder how far Brad Marchand can hit it with his nose? |

The KHL is an insanely defensive league. As is the SM-liiga and Elitserien. |

I's the soccer of hockey... Plus they are leagues with plenty of stick work and no fighting. One of the reasons I don't like europeanizing the game like they are doing right now... |

About a decade ago I threw out my back and got back spasms from rugby... (frank) me it took a long time to get it back to where I wanted it
Hope that you have a relatively quick healing period |
