There's a giant myth out there that European hockey is so superior to North American hockey - it's all about skill over size, the play is at such a higher level, the big ice makes for a more free-wheeling, skilled game, blah blah blah.

Anyone who's played on international ice for five minutes knows that all the statements above are crap. Large ice slows the game down. It gives players a lot more time to make decisions. There's less turnovers, as you can always just leisurely skate the puck to the sides, and nobody pursues you.

Take a look at the scoring averages for the Euro leagues vs. the North American leagues. It will surprise you.

And my other favourite little tidbit: "Euro leagues can go 7-8 minutes without a whistle!"

Yeah, that's because teams can rag the puck for minutes on end, without ever getting a scoring opportunity or shot on net.

Yea, that's the better way of judging it, since some euro leagues only count primary assists.

Some people use "scoring" for points though.

Ya. for him though, I mean dead last still gets some decent money. Might was well milk it...

Dead last (missing the cut) pays you $0.00

Yet you pick up all of your own expenses: flight, hotel, your caddy's expenses.

He's bleeding money.

Nikita Zaitsev - Right Defenseman, 6'1 190lbs, 23 years old, CSKA Moskva in the KHL

57gp 12g 20a 32p +27 (league high)

Zaitsev has really turned heads this year after three seasons of solid, but unspectacular play. He was good, but not really providing enough impetus for a team to sign him. He led first place CSKA in goals and points by defensemen by a healthy margin, along with hits and blocked shots. He ended up with 11PPG's and while I'm not going to run through each one, they all look rather similar, a massive one-timer. He led the club in ice-time playing on the top-pairing for the second year in a row. He has always been viewed as a defensive defender who plays physical. This goes back to his World Junior days and his early KHL career. Since being moved to CSKA he has been allowed to explore his offensive game to great success while maintaining his defensive posture.

While he has yet to earn a point thus far in the KHL playoffs, he remains their all purpose rock on the back end playing over 20 minutes a night. Teams are always looking to add right handed defensemen and he could be an interesting guy to watch for.

I guess you could say Zaitsev is a pretty good sniper, eh?

Standard Formula
The PGA Tour designates a specific percentage of a tournament’s purse for each place in the standings, from first to 70th. A tournament’s champion receives 18 percent of the total purse while the 70th spot is worth 0.2 percent of the purse. If more than 70 professional golfers make a tournament cut, each position after 70th place is worth $100 less than the previous spot. In a tournament with a $5 million purse, for example, the winner receives $900,000. The 10th place finisher receives $135,000 (2.7 percent); 20th place is worth $65,000 (1.3 percent); 30th place pockets $34,000 (0.68 percent); 40th place receives $21,500 (0.43 percent); 50th place gets $12,600 (0.252 percent); 60th place is worth $11,000 (0.22 percent); and 70th place earns $10,000.

Ya pretty much... I thought they gave them something for showing up, especially if they're invited like former major winners. Weir should just go play senior, or is he still too young?...
