Jim Benning was hired May 23, 2014 - so in one year he's brought Ryan Miller, Nick Bonino, Linden Vey, Radim Vrbata, Derek Dorsett, Sven Baertschi, Andrey Pedan & Adam Clendening.
That's as many players as Gillis brought in, in five (frank)in years!!
The team made the playoffs and finished with 101 points for cryin out loud, and everyone's female doging....it's like the spawn of the the Nuckers in here??

Hiller 4.5, Halak 4.5, Anderson 3.187, Elliott 2.5.
All of those guys signed recently (last couple of years) and I would consider vet goalies, ( 5+ seasons and in 30 +)
I said if Benning is forced to trade an asset at a reduced price.... It is clear he doesn't have cap space right now for all the RFA's, time will tell what value he gets for moving out spots and salary. - belcherbd
Ryan Millers was making 6.25 million a year before he signed with the Canucks, he's a bonifide #1 Vezina winning goaltender who put up decent Sv% and Adjusted Sv% numbers in Buffalo before he went to St. Louis for a couple months.
If you think he was gonna sign for the money Craig Anderson, or Hiller, or Brian frickin Elliot your nuts. None of them have the experience or pedigree that Miller has, none of them were starting Olympic goaltenders.
Benning signed him for what his value was around the league, his mistake, if you wanna call it that, is believing the team was still very competitive and had a longer window to compete than they actually did....which IMO led to the three year deal. Should have been two.
In Bennings defense, regarding his opinion on the team, he was only on the job a few months with the Canucks before he signed Miller. |

Miller is also 24th all-time in wins, will probably finish top 10 all time, he'd also won a Vezina by time he was Lack's age. We already proved we don't like good goalies though as last year we pushed out a guy that will be top 5, probably 2nd or 3rd alltime in wins. |

Check out his career +/-, waaaaaay better than Edler's. + He can play mean and with a snarl. There's lots of Canucks fans that don't understand hockey. They only judge a toolbox by 1 or 2 tools, so just because there's a poopty set of pliers(the other tool boxes have 5 of those/team) doesn't mean that you won't need the screwdriver or hammer in the one unique toolbox. Canucks fans for the most part when it comes to hockey are too dumb to understand this. I've said all along that should KB3 become available, probably 15-20 teams would at least kick tires. However in Van, there seems some crusade to run him out of town. I bet if TSN pumps his tires and shows his good highlights the return will be much higher than alot of people here think. - I-own_da-Northwest
Running him outta town is a bit strong worded. I think it's a matter of recognizing the team isn't competitive and needs to change.
Kevin Bieksa (IMO) has value around the league and Benning needs to use that value to acquire a either a pick or a prospect to the organization instead of letting him walk for nothing.
Which has been done far too often in Vancouver and led, in part, to the shallow pool of kids within the organization. |

I think if Benning trades him to a good team it'll be a first (in the 18-29 range) +
I could also see a fringe team trading a 10th-17th straight across for him.
I think the value will be there for him. |

Hiller lost the starting job to a rookie before he signed in Calgary. His save % for the previous 3 seasons was .911, .913, .910. And he STILL got $4.5M.
Halak was barely even a #1 before he was signed by the Islanders. He played 57 games with the Blues 3 seasons before signing a 4 year deal with the Islanders. He also played 52 the season before, split between 2 teams. Apart from those 2 seasons he had never played more than 46 games.
Brian Elliott? This is where you're taking this???
How about:
Luongo ('nuff said)
Smith - 6 years @ @5.666M
Fleury - 4 years @ $5.75M
Quick - 10 years @ $5.8M
Varlamov - 5 years @ $5.9M
Lehtonen - 5 years @ $5.9M
Crawford - 6 years @ $6M
Ward - 6 years @ $6.3M
5 more guys at $6.5 - $8.5. One of those is for 2 years, the rest are 6, 7, 8 & 8 years. |

I swear some media think we have been asleep for 20 years.
Kuzma reports breaking news that Benning has been fielding calls for a young goalie
No sh1t Einstein . We have only been talking about it for 3 months. Mark Eason puts it out in his trade rumours.
Hell if people want to find out something , then come read what we are discussing. They get half their rumours from us anyways.
We know Lack and/or Markstrom are being shopped enough with the 3 month old news. |

They really are dummies. Their jobs is to give us info we don't know , that is why it is called news and not olds .
Moj was female doging like a school girl yesterday that he was forced to cover the Masters. Dude it is your job , this is what you signed up for . This is one of the most difficult courses in America and you don't want to be there. They should have offered the gig to Bro Jake but I heard he was busy making up penis jokes |

I doubt Moj & Bro Jake know as much about Hockey than the majority of posters here. I would suggest most of us here are better informed on current team events as apposed to the Radio guys or Kusma and Co. I tend to respect the writers such as Elliotte, Pierre etc more. |

Cam Talbot is a fair and accurate comparable to Lack, age experience, contract etc. We are watching you Mr. Benning, don't sell your goalies short! There is a market for them right now! Pick up the phone... |

seems like Talbot is getting more love from other GM's. I don't watch enough rangers games to be able to compare lack to Talbot, But i don't imagine the difference between the two is that great. Once Talbot is dealt Lack should be next in line to move.... hopefully we can get a high 2nd rounder... lots of decent d-men still available at those spots. |

The market is the market. Getting a 2nd would be great. Getting less would suck, but Benning doesn't set the crap goalie market. His job is to get the best return possible. As long as he does, whatever it is, can't say it's a failure. |

Except that apparently every team looking for a goalie right now values Talbot ahead of Lack. Talbot will set the bar and Lack will be gauged slightly below that. |

I have yet to hear Benning talk about cap issues - VANTEL
The guy seems to talk to every GM and on a consistent basis. I'm sure he's figured out what options he has in terms of moving salary and as a result isn't too worried.
I personally love how active he is with not only scouting, but with talking to other GM's. Seems to have a pretty good relationship with most so far. |

That's right, if you only get a 3rd or less for Lack, simply take him off the market. Done. |
