Here's some good for thought:
Eddie Lack would have to win 42 games/year to be at the same amount as miller is now. Lack is no spring chicken either and is probably a career back up. |

Benning can't afford to sell low, the fact he said this "Canucks GM says it’s hard to get full value for them" troubles me. So what's he going to do? Sit back and wait for the phone to ring? Take what he can get? I think by the end of next week we will have a clearer understanding of how good our GM really is. More to come... - VanHockeyGuy
You should clearly present your case to Aquilini. It's obvious you'd make a better GM than Benning. I'm pulling for you. |

Who knows is right. Even the statement that F. Aquilini says playoffs or you're fired is a "guess" on everyone's part.
I know he's come out and said there's no excuse for not being in the playoffs but that has to be taken with a grain of salt. No team can be competitive forever, it's just not realistic. Detroit is the exception, not the rule.
To that point, Trevor Linden has stated publicly that in his discussions with FA he wanted full autonomy or he was out....he said it was given to him!! - LeftCoaster
The Canucks change their "Model" like underwear. DET, BOS, LA, how good were those teams the playoffs? BOS & DET Had major shakeups, they won't stop there if the results aren't there. The difference is VAN is okay with simply qualifying for the post season, beyond that it's a bonus. Management has met their mandate and are happy. Just not the fans. Can't wait to hear the shyte come out of their mouths at the next town hall meeting if the team stands pat. |

Do you complain publically you can't get value? Lets see how that works for him? What I do know is I'm better at public speaking. |

I think that's complete BS!! If you think Linden or Benning don't want to or don't care about winning a Cup you're a fool (sorry) - wanting to be competitive and develop your youth in that environment is completely different than be okay with just making it to the post season.
Benning was choked they lost in the fashion they did to Calgary, he learned IMO and he's going to adjust. Again, he's been on the job 12 months. |

Agreed.
Lack is worth a 2nd, all things been equal. It's possible a GM that is high on him (or desperate from missing out on other goalies) could trade a late 1st but that would be above the value price IMO.
So who could that be?
Per Dregger's report on the teams interested in Talbot, the picks they have available in the 1st and 2nd round are (my Lack-zone picks in bold):
Edmonton Oilers - #1, 16, 33, 57
Buffalo Sabres - #2, 21, 31, 51
San Jose Sharks - #9, 39
Dallas Stars - #12, 49
Florida Panthers - #11
Calgary Flames - # 45, 52, 53 |

What I'm saying is the mandate was the playoffs. Hearing the lame excuses like "they kept coming and coming" didn't make me feel good about the team, nor their lack of toughness. So which model are we following now?

When I think of shakeups I cant help but think of the Joe Thornton to SJ move. It was a bad hockey trade, but gave them more financial flexibility to bring in Chara and other pieces to change the team mentality, a major overhaul that worked for several seasons |

Get fair value, don't make excuses. Who cares if JB has only been on the job 12 months. Its simple if the "fair value" is not there, keep him.

I don't recall Benning ever saying he wants to follow another teams model? I do remember Gillis saying that though.
When you frequently change General Managers of course you're going to get differing points of view on style of play. All I've ever heard Benning say, after he's watched the team for a year now, is that the team has to get younger, faster & more physical.
Those are pretty generic statements, true, but very generic. |

I would agree with this, I'd rather trade Markstrom for a 3rd than get anything less than a 2nd for Lack. |

The draft and develop from within, which is what Benning was referring to. |

I hope I'm wrong on this. But is it possible the other GM's might be taking advantage of him being a rookie with a Gomer Pyle persona?

Never happen...the guy didn't just fall off a turnip truck. He's been around the league a long long time.
Just because a person doesn't enunciate properly or with elegance doesn't mean he's an idiot.
I saw a Gretzky interview early last year when the Canucks got off to a good start where he said he spoke to his brother, Gretzky, and his brother said he's one of the smartest well respected guys around the league. So Gretzky said it didn't surprise him the Canucks were doing well. |

That's what Boston did, drafted a developed from within...I don't see you're point? Being more physical is a given, in part how Calgary beat us last year.
You're female doging just to female dog now... |

Hope you right, this is his second draft. Season ticket holders, Corporate Sponsors, And fans will be watching. As things stand today, what would convince someone to buy tickets for next year?

female doges gotta female dog
In all seriousness though, you don't follow somebody else's model, if you're smart enough you create your own and hopefully stay ahead of the curve on a 5 -7 year plan and if it works out you get a shot at the cup, because you went right while everybody else went left. |

Per NHL source, CHI currently asking for 1st rd pick, A-level prospect & top 6 forward on entry-level contract for Patrick Sharp
Guess CHI doesn't feel like trading Sharp then. |
