If we had Quick in this organization he'd have been traded ages ago.

How did Justin Shultz avoid re-entering the draft?
- AlexF

There must be some sort of time-line involved - Schultz was drafted way back in 2008 but then went the University route. Apparently he became a free agent somewhere along the way and thus signed with Edmonton in 2013. I'm sure some of the posters must know the parameters involved, though

It's either likely tied to player age or amount of time after being drafted - ie if the player doesn't sign an ELC within that time, he's free to walk.

To be honest I think it's a great loophole if it gets a player to his team of choice or, at least, a more preferable choice.

His 2nd draft yera was 2011, he was not drafted again. After he did not get drafted in 2011 he became UFA.

Drafted by the Anaheim Ducks, Schultz was unable to come to terms on a contract with the team. During the last week of May, 2012, Schultz officially "de-registered" from the University of Wisconsin triggering a process that made him an unrestricted free agent (UFA). According to league rules, from the time Anaheim was given notice of the de-registration from school, they had a 30-day exclusive window to try to sign him or trade him.[citation needed] Anaheim was ultimately unable to sign him. On June 30, 2012, Schultz agreed to a two year entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers.[1]

Interesting that while Benning has preached size and grit, the only player he has acquired of that ilk outside of the draft has been Dorsett.

Clendenning, Baertschi, Vey, Vrbata don't fit that mold.

edit. Pedan would fit the mold I guess.

- belcherbd

Excellent point. Vey is literally the antithesis to his type of player. I would also add Higgins to that list.

Maybe I'm biased, but you Canuck fans sure don't give Miller enough credit. Yea it was unfortunate he went down with an injury late, but for watching him for years in Buffalo, you have one of the hardest working team player goalies in the league! The fight just doesn't stop in that guy.

P.S. I wouldn't mind taking Lack from you guys, but with the goalie market how it is right now I've got no clue what GMTM is deciding to do.

It's a bit of a surprising loophole. You'd think more players who take the college route would take advantage of this - especially as concerns those who want to focus on their education first.

I have a feeling we won't be trading any NTCs and that Lack will go for less than a 2nd.
- SRam19

If talbot gets a 1st which I doubt could maybe get 21 from buffalo for lack, i doubt it but crazier things have happened like Sbisas contract extension

Yup. People need to get off the Trade Hamhuis Train. He's not going anywhere. He's been damn steady and still has some good years in front of him.

People get bored with their toys. They get mad when their old toy is killing it in someone elses toy box.

Bieksa on the other hand... Jesus. What a Train Wreck. Yet he's loved. I'm glad he finally got exposed for who is really is against Calgary. He was never that talented and he had a few years where he overachieved.

- rugdnit

Id like to trade him at the deadline. I think his value would be at its highest then. I would then just resign him in the off season. Im really hoping we suck next year cus if its not then its going to be soon. When the sedins go were finished and at least now we have 2 years of solid drafts plus whatever we get this year. We could turn it around sooner than most teams. Also, would suck be a garbage team shortly after missing out on mcdavid, eichel and mathews.

As much as I like them and wish them well...I kind of hope both sedins miss a large part of next season so we a bottom feeders. Maybe a series of flu's from nov-march.

Of course we expect them to digress, they get hurt? Meh. I am more interested what the plan is? Based on what everyone is suggesting (lately) it's Horvat & ?. We are doomed. Not like that's a bad thing mind you.

Preach on brotha.... I want a great pick next year. We need to think of the future. I think Horvat and Virtanen are a great start, but we need a D-man like Hanifin or Chychrun to look forward to.

Playoffs.
Ownership wants playoffs.
Every year.

- Marwood

They do...and unfortunately it will handcuff us a bit moving forward. But that's life.

The Sbisa signing is odd but may play out. Miller I'm not concerned about at all. Most likely gone at TDL.

Benning and Desjardins helped get the team back to the playoffs and that's exactly what ownership wanted...some gravy playoff cash that was missing he previous year under Torts.

Vrbata, Bonino, Dorsett, Miller and Benning (if true) pushing Horvat in did not hurt this team much if at all last year.

I'm looking for another 4-5 spots being filled. Corrado, Clendening, Baertchi and MAYBE Virtanen...plus a smart trade coming back with lack going out.

Our D is atrocious and it starts there. No bite, meanness or drive to their game. None. You watch Keith and Seabrook and they take care of business back there...in every way. We are nowhere near that back there.

Until we shore up our D in this western conference it ain't gonna matter what we do up front right now. I saw a previous comment here on our speed and skill? We have some skill but basically no speed other than Hansen on the forecheck. Sedins, Burrows, Higgins, Bonino, Richardson, Hamhuis, Bieksa and a host of others look like they are treading water out there.

Gonna be interesting after a few weeks.

Weak, scared of physicality, not thier style. We are about speed and skill.

- VanHockeyGuy

The Hawks have both... All in spades.

It's a big reason why they have 3 cups in 6 years.

So do I. Any team any year can catch lighting in a bottle and ride it to the cup.

Catch Lightning?

I just hope they catch the next Duncan Keith and ride him to a bunch of cups.

The only thing the Canucks were catching in a bottle in the last playoffs was farts.

I can't view the video for some reason.

Can you share which teams Bieksa is generating "a ton of interest from"?

Seriously what the (frank) is up with the Canucks and goalies.. Do they get off on trading goalies?

A couple of years ago it was a debate louongo or Schneider . Now they are both gone. And now they want to trade Lack haha

- QuickSCF

If we had Quick the natives would run him out of town too...

All while blowing Bieksa cuz' he's a quote machine and he thinks he's tough.

It was quite the Stanley Cup parade and party at Soldier Field - 60,000+ people and of course Crawford throwing out f-bombs.

Great celebration (@#$@# jealous )
