Just bs. Pumps up Bieksa and what he brings, leadership and character, yada yada.

"all encompassing #2"

They don't actually name a destination.

Yeah I found that a little hard to swallow as well but it is TSN and he's from Ontario.

The way we go through goalies it is his best chance
- VANTEL

We talk about, or the media talks about the goalie graveyard but I wonder how it is really perceived outside of Vancouver? We had Lou, Schneider, Lack and Miller now playing here and we are likely to move Lack to make room for Markstrom...

Sounds like an organization that recently has had some great goalies playing for them, maybe a place to go and develop? Is Cloutier going to remain the goalie coach for Utica? I wonder how many ahl clubs have goalie coaches o similar?

Two potential number 1's is what you want. move one and get something back. Goalie gets a chance to play a bigger role with another club. Too bad we aren't moving Miller and his cap hit, but I think we will be okay.

Some times you have an asset and all that sticks out to you are the flaws. For someone with an outside perspective, they only see the positives, potential and are going by an eastern bias influenced by Cherry.

headline is...

Suitors lining up for Lucic, Bieksa

Milan Lucic and Kevin Bieksa, two players who are going into the final season on their contracts are generating a ton of interest on the market. That's Hockey sheds light on which teams are pursuing them the hardest.

TSN is out of the loop in Western Canada, wish it was factual though.

Great! That said if Lack goes for anything less than a 2nd rounder I'm done.
- VanHockeyGuy

It's sh*tty timing and circumstances that will make Lack worth only a second rounder. The perception being that he still has a ways to go until becoming a solid goaltender option. As was pointed out by Alex, I believe, each individual/situation is unique and some athletes can step right in and absorb a high work load at a quality level. I think Lack has shown very promising returns, but of course the goalie market is, once again, fairly saturated (not to mention the Eastern bias and the goaltenders getting all the attention).

I for one will be disappointed to see Lack go (if it comes down to that, and it's looking more like that will be Benning's next course of action). I've always preferred actual proven assets than the promise of potential/draft pick(s) etc, in particular given that we've developed this player in the system, a player who is now coming into his own, and will only be receiving lackluster value in the return.

As someone else mentioned on the board earlier, it will be great to see Benning get involved in the market, but we don't want to just give away players for virtually nothing either

Insiders had predicted both goalies would be gone that year before Schneider was traded. Everyone stops to look at a train wreck . Smart people invest in funeral parties.

Speaking of which I was working at a funeral parlour the other day installing telephones and the owner says you guys have a racket going with the amount you charge for the phone service. Pot meet kettle

The problem with capitalism. Supply, demand and monopolies or regulated industries.

And when pricing, what is fair? making money off of misery.

regulated industries, stakeholders, lobbying, political influence.

#31 best case imo 4 Lack, 3rd or 4th rounders? Keep him.

Meh - four or five years is not that long when you consider the draft age is 18. We've got some good young kids and I expect they'll add more over the next three years. Once you find yourself a core group of about five guys you start adding thru trades and free agency.

The next three years are pretty much a non event "for me", I'm looking way ahead.

I'd rather see him be part of a multi-piece package which would hopefully enhance his value and thus return. But I agree, if we can't get a very high second then it's just not worth it. I have a feeling we are going to be quite disappointed nonetheless, but unfortunately this is another one of those issues which has to be resolved before it becomes another Luongo/Schneider fiasco. Again, the timing, market and circumstances are really working against us.

How many of those were signed to 3X6 deals as a 34 year old ?

If he didn't sign him out of the goodness of his heart I find it more concerning that he thought he would be anything more than average as he continues to age.

You are sidetracking me though, none of this matters because that is what Benning chose to pay and if this contract along with others he has signed means that he has to move other assets at a reduced price just to fit his RFA's in, he has made a mistake.

- belcherbd

$6M is average for a veteran starting goalie.

How do you know he has to move anyone at a reduced price? Seems like a pretty big assumption. And a mistake? Oh man. You are jaded! Benning has a plan. Let's just see what he does.

Hiller 4.5, Halak 4.5, Anderson 3.187, Elliott 2.5.

All of those guys signed recently (last couple of years) and I would consider vet goalies, ( 5+ seasons and in 30 +)

I said if Benning is forced to trade an asset at a reduced price.... It is clear he doesn't have cap space right now for all the RFA's, time will tell what value he gets for moving out spots and salary.

I think more people here are worried about the cap than Benning

The guys not stupid, I'm sure he has a plan on where he'd like to go and how to get there. Anyone who expects him to come out and tell everybody is foolish.

I've said this 100 times or more, there are no quick fixes, so he's gonna need some time to clean up the mess he was left by Gillis.

Check out his career +/-, waaaaaay better than Edler's. + He can play mean and with a snarl. There's lots of Canucks fans that don't understand hockey. They only judge a toolbox by 1 or 2 tools, so just because there's a poopty set of pliers(the other tool boxes have 5 of those/team) doesn't mean that you won't need the screwdriver or hammer in the one unique toolbox. Canucks fans for the most part when it comes to hockey are too dumb to understand this. I've said all along that should KB3 become available, probably 15-20 teams would at least kick tires. However in Van, there seems some crusade to run him out of town. I bet if TSN pumps his tires and shows his good highlights the return will be much higher than alot of people here think.
