Yea won't be easy but good GMs usually find away. I'd look at teams with no 2nd rounders. Get the leafs late first then use both picks to get floridas pick, it's pricey but If someone like Barzal or Rantanen falls a bit that would be huge get for us.

With ammo like 21, 31, 51, larsson, grigoernko, it's possible. I see murray looking to trade upto the 12-16 range for a guy that falls and/or a guy like connor, Meier, konecny, or white.

Murray can try to do this but is there a trading partner that wants quantity over quality. There wasn't last year.

True, but the first round pick we have at 21 is key. It's a whole lot easier to trade your pick when you're getting a first rounder back. It's all about who is there when these teams are picking as well, we won't know till Friday night.

True and I hope that we need up working out that way. But, with the dropoff in talent around 14-15, it makes it tough to get someone t trade the higher pco, would think

I think if we package one of the second round picks with the 21st that will get us to the 15 range...dangling Grigs and/or Hods for what they're worth may help a little more...but doubt there would be takers on them!

Keep in mind that he offered a lot to move up a few spots last year and was turned down. If there is a big dropoff after 20 then don't be surprised if teams balk at moving down.

A few spots? He tried moving up from 31 to in the teens last year. That's a lot different from going from 21 to 13 or 14

yea i think a team is far more interested in moving down if it still guarantees them a pick in the first round.

Besides our #2, i dont give a crap about picks this year. I want to see Murray do what ever he has to in order to get his laundry list checked off for training camp. We can take a break from picks for one draft. We need players to ice this fall. Sure, we'll have plenty of picks in the later rounds that i hope we hit on, but it sounds like Murray wants to actually ice a team next year. GMTM, Trade what ever you have to for a goalie and a few other parts.

Ek says we are in on ramo. I hope that is the case. He could be a solid starter in a few years.

I like GMTM's style. I hope he's up to something. He said "two drafts" to start on the road to competativeness again. While i understand that its important to keep the cupboard stocked, i also dont want to be in "draft pick limbo" for years. I want players to compliment what little we have right now.

This was an interesting article on NHL.com about the Sabres, GMTM and this year's draft.

Not necessarily because the teens last year weren't rated as highly as they are this year. Either way, it wouldn't surprise me if he is unable to move.

#21 isn't exactly a throwaway pick, nor is #31 really with the depth of this draft

21 should be an pretty good player, 31 and 51 should be NHLers. If you only care about the top pick youll never be good. Gotta draft well every year to have a great team for many years.

Murray was trying to trade for a certian player/players that went around 20th and offered 31+41+49. Huge difference between the guy you get at 31 than 20, and too big for only second rounders as the bonus. Having the 21 as ammo makes it possible to move up. Teams are willing to get a guy ranked 5-7 spots lower on their list, not 10-15 spots lower.
