I like it except I'd sign a cheaper 3rd center than Soderberg. I personally am not a fan of his. No reason or anything, I just dont see ghe need to spend that much on a third center.
Plus that way you would not be that close to the cap if injuries hit. Otherwise I like it. - mmonana120
Fair enough, I think Fehr at $3.5M is probably better value. But I do like Soderberg and I'm guessing he will cost about that much. |

Zero chance on the Toffoli deal. The rest of the moves are reasonable to hope for. - jfkst1
yeah, i cant see it not being matched.
but hed be worth the picks and salary for sure. young, locked up winger for malkin. boom.
id have to think about pouliot for drouin. getting that steal for ellis would definitely soften the blow. i cant see sutter getting him though.
but wow, it is something to see malkin flanked by 2 young, skilled wingers.
and ellis and cole is a fine defensive pairing.

Not too shabby at all. Some simple, fair, low profile moves. Not sure Minny makes that move but I wont complain. |

All the top RFAs (Toffoli, Tarasenko, Saad, Stepan, Hamilton, etc.) are good enough players that their respective teams will adjust their roster around them. So any reasonably priced offer sheet will be matched. Though it could substantially harm a team's cap situation which is something I am hoping for with CHI and NYR. |

Wanted to see how much cap space left if signed Drew Stafford and than traded Sutter. I did deal for Vrbata just because I felt the better top 6 target coming back and both only on 1 yr deals. - mmonana120
I think all four lines could put up some points. It does seem like the Pens are going with the young defense also, which I think they really need to try to do for this year to see where the young players stand.

I would love to have Ladd on the Penguins. I thought that WPG might also want Kunitz instead of Spalling, and maybe even Harrington plus a pick. That would free up a good amount of cap space to even bolster the D or get another winger in free agency.

I'm fine with that. Is wpg in need of center's? I don't follow them much but I know Ladd and Wheeler are the kind of players the Pens need. |

I think Sutter can fit in on WPG, and Mark Scheifele is good (not great). I think Sutter is an upgrade over Perreault, Lowry, and Slater. But Winnipeg would need more scoring coming back, and I believe WPG minus Ladd could use a veteran like Kunitz who has won 2 cups and a gold medal. WPG might ask for some retained salary on Kunitz and a pick and/or a prospect like Harrington to really make the trade go through.
Of course, the higher the picks the more flexibility and less they would want back.. |

Not sure WPG give up Ladd but love thought of him on Pens. With the 5.7 left you could get yourself another winger. Say Stafford at 4.5. Put him with Sid bc there history. Your lines would look like
Perron - Sid - Stafford
Ladd - Malkin - Hornqvuist
Kunitz - Miller - Duper /Bennett
Comeau -Winnik - Beagle
Those top 3 lines would score you some points and give defense time to grow. Sid and Ladd might even be able to play together and be an almost shut down pair. Similiar to what Det does with Dat and Z.

Someone posted earlier that he and Sid played together in Juniors and had a lot of chemistry. He has never played for a winner, so he may take a discount to come to winner (we hope) and play with a high school friend. His current deal was 4 mil. So I think he would sign here for around same amount, if not maybe a lil less. |

I don't think Kunitz and Harrington gets you Kuznetsov. The Caps are high on him. - PittsPens
and that 2nd line is useless.
PIT has room to get Soderberg for 2nd line LW, say $4.5/4yrs.
Trading Sutter would be indeed a good idea...CBJ, VAN seem likely, maybe COL if they plan to trade O'Reilly. Let's say CBJ. If we add Pouliot we could probably get: 8th + Jenner/Atkinson (also Rychel, but I would favor the other two). Otherwise, for Harrington + Sutter we could still get one of those guys plus a 2nd round pick.
Jackman/Oduya will probably cost around $4mil/yr for 3yrs or $4.5 on 2yr deal. I think either can play 3 more years, but would prefer 2 if they would take it. Hejda would probably take a 2yr deal at $3.5/yr.
Resign Winnik if reasonable price...
I haven't worked the cap numbers, but IF Dupuis is indeed back AND doesn't fit on 4th line (cap wise) then I would sign a guy like Halischuk at minimum and deal Kunitz for a 3rd or 4th rnd pick.
I'd deal Lovejoy for anything (man that Despres deal was HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!)
I would keep Scuderi though. (a) I don't think buyouts are a good idea for a team who is going to be close to the cap for the next few years, (b) he only has 2 years left, (c) he has leadership/etc and can be a good 6/7 guy, (d) we'd have to pay somebody else to take him off our hands-if he even wants to, (e) I would hesitate to ask older guys to waiver their NT clause as it could have an impact on future FA signings.
Perron - Crosby - Hornquist
Soderberg - Malkin - Jenner/Atkinson
Dupuis/Kunitz - Spaling - Bennett
Halischuk - Sundquist - Winnik
Wilson
Letang - Maatta
Pouliot - Jackman/Odyua/Hejda
Demoulin - Chorny
Scuderi

I saw this on another site, just thought I'd pass it along.
"Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Penguins GM Jim Rutherford will try to get Patrick Sharp from the Blackhawks. Don’t know if he’ll be able to get it done. The Islanders could be another team interested in Sharp."
I don't know anything about the writer, if he is a legit source or someone who just makes stuff up.
I also decided to make a team with Stafford and Sharp, just again to see the money. I traded Bennett and Sutter to Chicago. Bennett as a cheap wing to be a third line winger and Sutter to replace Richards and Vermette who are gone. Money is about even.

I usually disagree with Brooks, but I do think he has legit sources in the NYR. Not sure I would trust him outside of the NYR scope though. Rutherford has yet to deviate from his stated goals and he said he wants to get younger and faster so I don't think Sharp is someone he would trade for. I don't think Bowman would be interested in Sutter. |

Never thought I'd say this...but I don't want anything to do with Patrick Sharp. Too old, too expensive to acquire, too much cap hit.
I've become more intrigued with Hagelin...if I can put up with the surfer boy hair.

Stafford wouldn't be my first choice but I guess he could be used as plan C.
Realistically we have the assets to trade for a 2nd line player (starting with Sutter+Dumoulin+Pick) and sign another one on the FA market.
We better try to keep Harrington in the organization. Just a feeling he'll be very solid. Määttä, Pouliot and Harrington would be the untouchables for me. |

a lot of very interesting things going on here. - stayinthefnnet
I think it's a good formula for getting good young talent around the roster.
Sutter+ for Ryan Ellis
Sign Soderberg (or Fehr)
Pouliot for Drouin or equivalent young winger
Harrington+ for Rychel
Offersheet to Toffoli (or any very good young winger with a team potentially not able to match at $4-5M..and they are worth the 1st and 3rd)
Outside of the Sutter deal, the trade targets are interchangeable with similar players. |

Btw...I was a big fan of Simon Despres. Too bad GMJR traded him for a 3rd pairing d-man. Nothing wrong about Lovejoy, he's a nice guy, but that's what he is: an average 3rd pairing d-man. |

Who would be your first choice as top 6 F to acquire (trade/UFA)? I'd take Frolik if the money isn't too outrageous. He's excellent defensively and I think he would have a bump in production with Crosby and Malkin. |

I wanted an Okposo type but he'll never be traded to Pittsburgh so my other options would be Oshie and Ennis. I really like D.Brown too but his contract is just ridiculous. All of them would cost quite a bit to acquire.
Free agents I'd try to bring Thikonov for our 2nd/3rd line. Frolik seems to be expensive but is an interesting name. Soderberg I still don't know if he's a 3rd line or if he could lineup next to Geno. Big body. |

Absolutely Frolik. I dont have a lot of interest in paying him any more than $3.5M. But I like him more than Belesky. My gut says if JR signs any FA, it will be Justin Williams. |
