No, with Domi on the way and Hanzal locked up Sutter would once again be an expensive third line center. Boedker is their rock for the young talent, as is Hanzal if he stays healthy. The other pieces might work but the main piece doesn't fit.
- usethe1-2-2

I doubt if Domi is ready for #2C yet, and Hanzal is only signed for 2 more years and is probably better suited for a #2/3C role anyway. Sutter could realistically be a #1C on ARZ and given the increased responsibility/ice time/etc, that could really give him a big opportunity. Boedker and Sutter are almost the same age...Hanzal is the oldest of the 3. All are within 3 year range though.

Exactly, way overpriced but in this market they can ask for it I guess.

Nash got that. Staal almost got that and he was a third line center.

Why would Arz give up their only young winger when they would be just a acquiring a no. 1 center like u proposed? If anything they would offer us their 1st.
- joescullz

They would be getting Bennett back as well...I'd take their 1st for Sutter, but I actually think there are better deals out there for PIT, IF the interest in Sutter is as reported.

If they are concerned about injuries, Boedker fits that bill. Again Im not sure he's a 4-5mil player and I dont think AZ wants to give him up....Then again who knows where the Yotes will be playing next year.

And an absolute Flyer killer! Jordan Staal was such a beast in Pittsburgh, such a lose lose situation for everyone involved.

Hanzal is hands down better than Sutter. Domi will be as well. Sutter is a third line center who some think can be a weak 2nd flanked by strong wingers.

AZ has 2 1st round picks....I could see them giving up the later pick maybe.
- sammy87

Again, Nashville needs offense. They have nothing in return to give us other than draft picks.

I am so intrigued to see if sutter is traded what the return is....Sutter has gone from a "ill take anything for him, sutter sucks, sutter is the reason we haven't wont the last 5 Stanley cups, dump his salary, sutter almost made the penguins move to KC" to "Sutter is pretty clearly worth a first round pick, sutter will bring back a strong group of assets, sutter is the bastard child of wayne gretzky so hes obviously great."

The media reporting on this have been all over the board, you gotta wonder how much of it is just throwin crap at the wall and seeing what sticks. As long as they cover all scenarios they will be able to say they were right about one of them.

Again, I am ASSUMING that the interest in Sutter is as reported; i.e., that teams see him as a #2C with upside. So, I am not going to argue whether that is indeed the case, it was assumed.

He fit his role so perfectly. It would have wrecked us to sign him to the contract he wanted. We had nothing in terms of prospects.

The assumption is that he is a 3rd line center with updside, not a second.

Agree. I am quite interested as well...I can see arguments from different perspectives...there really aren't other options out there though wrt young-ish #2/3 C with size and potential...that could drive his value up as well.

Absolutely, totally understand why he was dealt but man he really strapped them on making a trade by pretty much demanding it be to Carolina. Cant blame him for wanting a shot at top 6 minutes which he was obviously never going to see in Pittsburgh.

So the cap is $71.4...how many more years before Malkin's contract is a bargain?

No, the assumption was that many teams see him as a #2C...the "with upside" part means, more than an average #2C. On a team like ARZ with F depth issues that basically puts him at #1C by default.

The Ryan Miller trade, David Perron dump off, and Ian Cole swap are all examples of pretty bad trades for St. Louis. There seems to be a correlation from when Jarmo Kekäläinen left (Doug Armstrong hire) and when St. Louis' decisions got worse. Never say never.

The Perrron dump off was for a former high first rounder and a second rounder that was almost a first rounder in a situation where he had to create cap space. Wait to judge that trade until you see what bowman gets for Sharp and two more years when you see what Barbashev turns into (2nd rounder they got). Barbashev may be the best player of all involved in the end. Perron and the coach did not get along and he was picked as the cap casualty.

The Cole swap was not a bad trade at all. Very even trade from where we sit. Cole was a turnover machine that the coaching staff had little confidence in and for whom they appears to have little remaining patience.

I'd be ok with sutter for Ellis. Only a 2.5 mil cap hit for 4 more years. Use that cap space to go after frolik or some other decent UFA winger.

If the Pens are trading to CAR, I think the target should be Lindholm. Sutter+BB.

Ellis isn't what PIT needs though - he's an older, much less talented version of Pouliot.
