If the Pens are trading to CAR, I think the target should be Lindholm. Sutter+BB. - sammy87
Yes it should but carolina isn't going to trade a future building block. |

No, the assumption was that many teams see him as a #2C...the "with upside" part means, more than an average #2C. On a team like ARZ with F depth issues that basically puts him at #1C by default. - mventres

No... it was snow... walked onto the one lounge area on the 6th floor outside. I thought maybe something was on fire down the block at first >_> |

Ellis isn't what PIT needs though - he's an older, much less talented version of Pouliot. - mventres
He is older but he isn't old at all. He's also a RH dman and a good puck mover. |

He's only 24 and stepped up in a big way when Weber was injured in the playoffs. That cap hit though is very appealing. |

Yes, "older" not "old". He's small, not very good defensively, inconsistent...not what PIT needs in the top 4 D. We need a solid, stabilizing presence with some decent size. I think it's best to go with an older FA who has filled such a role already (Beauchemin, Hejda, Jackman, Oduya, etc.). In the 2-3 years that person is in PIT a Demoulin (or Harrington if we keep him) will have learnt enough and gotten enough experience to fill that role longer term. In the meantime, you get a D who will not hurt the team on the ice or economically (not huge $$ or long term deal). Even accounting for decline in play, it's a good move - as the older guy declines, Demoulin/Harrington will be stepping up. It's not the flashy move, but I think it's the smarter one. |

He has played very effectively in the top 4 before. NSH is stacked with defense. Especially RH ones. He's definitely top 4 ready now and all the evidence supports that.
Some of your suggestions like Jackman and Hejda are insanely inappropriate given scuderi's play in johnston's system. |

With the Salary Cap at $71 million, the following teams have less than $10 million in space heading into next season. (have $61 million or more already committed to next year)
Philadelphia
Chicago
Vancouver
Tampa Bay
Los Angeles
Montreal
Boston

The only player you mentioned who id be ok with is oduya, but he would command a ton of money after his success with the Hawks. Why the hell would you want Jackman and hejda? One scuderi is enough and you want to bring another one in? That leaves beauchemin and oduya, and both aren't taking less than what they've gotten before with their success. There is no saying whether or not dumoulin or Harrington become top 4 Dmen. At least with Ellis you get a proven top 4 player with some success. Saying Ellis isn't good defensively is ridiculous. He did great this year |

Disagree entirely. All of the guys I listed are significantly better then Scuderi ever was. Ellis is good, sure, with potential, sure...just not what we need. |

Look at the games/scouting reports on Ellis, he's a top 4 OFFENSIVE defenseman with no size. Unless you're planning to deal Pouliot where does he fit in? |

I feel like that meeting is almost a courtesy on Martin's agent... we can't match what he will get elsewhere. - Guile
Thats what I'm thinking too, but with this crew you just never know what they're gonna do. |

I liked Martin as well, but not on more than 3 year deal, and he'd have to take less than $5mil per... - mventres
After seeing what orpik got last year, there's no reason why martin wont get the same if not more.... |
