As far as pure value goes, Reinhart for 3rd overall is probably a fair price for both sides. However, given what Buffalo is going to get at #2 and what the team's needs are, Reinhart does far more for the Sabres than #3 overall does right now. Trading Reinhart plus for #3 sets this team back.
- buffalofan19

Trading Reinhart is asinine IMO. He's played 9 NHL games and was the 2nd overall pick.

Unless you are getting a bonafide star #1 defensemen, I don't see why you trade him. And Noah Hanifin isn't a star yet

Question becomes do you take marner who will likely be a winger in the nhl? He may be more skilled but he would be playing a less valuable position or do you take strome who will likey take 2 years more of development to find out if he can be a better center in the nhl than Sam reinhart
- MCGUIZZY

I think the question is do you take Marner, Hanifin or Provorov. I wouldn't trade Reinhart to take Strome but I'd leave that to scouts who know more than me.

I would seriously consider it. But I do think it changes the timeframe of the rebuild. That may not be the best reason not to do it but I think it could add another year or two given how close reinhart is to being NHL ready. Hanifin would be a great fit as he would be a much needed top 4 LHD. But I still value the center position more than defense. That said I wouldn't do it because I see strome as the only true center candidate

yea but will he be aggressive to a fault?
- Sabresfan-365

Other than you, 365, is there a GM you wouldn't find a fault with?

ROR is ours if we draft Hanifin or Provorov byallowing us to trade Zads; it's creative.

Is ROR better than Reinhart now? Yes, and and is Hanifin and Provorov better than Zads? Yes. The Sabres are better, the rebuild moves along quicker.

It won't happen but this is a better scenario than trading Reinhart straight up for ROR.

If we move reinhart for the 3rd, I hope we take either hannafin or strome.

I get this vibe from Murray, He is VERY specific about the "type" of player/mindset he wants on this team. I want a team like Chicago, it wasn't just their skill that earned them that Cup this year, I watched Anahiem, then Tampa, really put the body to those boys, and Keith was targeted, they seemed faster and better passing than their opponents, but it really hurt their transition and scoring the way the other teams were playing them, the fact that ALL the players forfeited their Skills(Kane) and Hard Hits to make plays, the displayed a "sacrafice of character" that I have rarely scene. I really think Murray has a list of players he sees as that type of Willing to sacrafice for the betterment of the team mentality. I don't care how much money is on his back while he does push-ups, I've ONLY heard Stellar reviews from his teamates, coaches and scouts praising Kane's on-ice demeanor, SERIOUS-Driven-My god I found it extemely impressive, that he was willing to play a position that does not help him personally, shutting down the opponents Top-Line with physical play, all the while his shoulder kept getting rammed out of its socket! That was in the regular season.....

No, all gm's have faults, the best ones tend to win in spite of having them. If he wins a cup i'll gladly swallow my pride and admit i was wrong. But until then my concern is justified. Not sure why it's a no-no for me to criticize something about him that concerns me.

So, every GM that has not won a Stanley Cup is a Bad GM?

I find it difficult to seek out , "maybe faults, potential faults, he might do this faults" when he has only been on the Job for such a short time, I'm not putting him on a pedistal, I think TMGM is his own worst critic. I love his dedication to the game, his pedigree, his age and energy, his vision and how he is so obviously frank about what he does and why he does it. I believe he will want to be fired if the Sabres don't contend or Win the Stanley Cup within the next 6 years. By then we will certainly have a much better catalog of his "warts" as you said every GM has.
If warts are mistakes in your mind, then I wouldn't want a GM who is afraid to make a mistake. I certainly would want them to learn from it, admit it, and explain position on moving forward, but I haven't found a fault as of his hiring. Have you?

P.S. I think he may have waited a bit long on moving Stewart, but I don't think he really cared about the 3rd vs 2nd round pick , with the amount he has, I think he figured, I hold the Ace, in a chance he could catch a 1st in this draft or a prospect he had underlined. I would take that gamble, if thats what he was thinking,

I like that he's willing to take chances, and i too would rather a guy who isn't afraid to make mistakes. All i said was his aggressiveness might be his undoing (in terms of acquiring o'reilly and signing him to a massive overpayment), it also might not.

It's too early either way to say how his moves will pan out, but until we actually see how they fit i remain skeptical on some of them, but that's only my opinion.

I cant see the oilers taking a goalie at 16. Id be happy if they did though, basically moves us up to 20.

Thats completely fair and extremely well said

I concur

P.S. I wonder if he really does value ROR as much as we've heard on here?
I'm starting to think he doesn't like Russians so much , not personally of course, but there is something in American/Canadian kids that just HAVE TO HAVE THE CUP.

I'm not suggesting that Russian or European players can't have an internal Competitiveness that simply drives them to be the best, HASEK! But I have noticed a more sort of professional this is my job sort of effort from some.

That was exactly what I was thinking when I saw that.

I'll definately be rooting for them to do that!

I was kind of hoping we grab the Canadian kid with 31 though, so I wouldn't want Philly to take him there

So we finally have our 2C center of the future in Sam Reinhart and a perfect compliment to Eichel and we want to trade him? My god.

Thank you for your input gerbe 75 pts

As was stated perviously maybe Reinhart and Domi is enticing to Arizona. What other prospect, young player would be worth the 3rd overall?

It is probably a 22-23 year old already established player
