I think the better question is this: is Lack a second round pick better than the UFA's? - Slump Buster
Lack has potential to be a long term starter here.
Niemi or other UFAs are nothing more than a bandaid and we are back to square 1 or hoping a prospect pans out by when their contract ends. |

I still think the question is going to be about who is available at 51 and if the value is there, and the player projects better than where you see Lack or a UFA projecting.
To me, and I have seen a few others on the same page, the goaltending is never the issue. You can put pretty much any goalie there, but it's about projecting the future. If there is a goalie that solves a long term problem in net, or if the player you can draft at 51 is a better long term option. |

Off topic, but I think the new 3v3 OT would be a blast to watch.
After FA I'll ask who you all would pick as your top 3?
Do you go 2F, 1D or go all out with 3F? |

depends on how good of a faceoff man you have honestly.
if you have a good faceoff man I'd go 2 Fs and 1 D.. but if not.. 1 F and 2 D. |

But, but ROR is the truth and plays a complete 200 foot game...
- Stripes77
The thing you both are missing is the playoff stats and size. Oshie is smaller and is "less" in the playoffs while O'Reillly is bigger and produces more in playoffs...
Oshie 30games 5g 4a 9pts
O'Reilly: 13games 3g 4a 7pts |

I think this is where it get neat.
Id go 1 d 2 F
I think there are only a hand full of teams who could go 3 F. Just think of the strategy involved. OF faceoff with 3 forwards would be nice to watch. |

My concern with Oshie is the ability to diasppear in the playoffs. I would rather have whatever prospect or pick you would have to give in the lineup as they could be a difference maker when we are hopefully contending. - thatsapickle

To me that is wrong attitude. Getting to playoffs by selling picks and prospects, but losing in the first round will sting. But getting a team that can contend once in playoffs (see 8th seed LA Kings), that is what I want, a tough team to play in playoffs. |

If you have the best and hot goalie in the playoffs anything is possible. Think we are splitting hairs worrying about playoff production. I mean would you pass on Stammer |

You won't make it to the playoffs unless you have guys that play big in the regular season.
Look at Briere. He was a killer in the playoffs for Philly but didn't do jack all season for the most part.
he would be a less than .5 ppg player all season and then come playoffs was a .75 or better player per game. Can't do that unless you have enough guys.
lets not beat a dead horse on ROR being a god send but he just has basically EXACT stats as Oshie does. |

Yet neither player is someone I wold give up the 2nd overall pick in last years draft...
I would look at Okposo...
21st, Foligno, Prospect.
He plays top line RW
Kane Eichel Okposo (the Oreo line)
Moulson Reinhart Ennis
Larrson Girgensons Gionta
Deslauriers McCormick Kaleta?

I doubt if any of you care but apparently WGR isn't airing the Smack off on the Jim Rome Show on Friday . For Eichel watch you got to be freaking kidding me. Yeah we are drafting Eichel you don't need a 2 day production about. Just what I need 3 more hours of the Slap Richards of the morning show and Dope and the female dog. |

Change Oshie to Okposo for 21, Foligno, and Prospect
Trade 51 for Lack.
Eichel, Okposo, and Lack added in the "first two rounds" - Stripes77

THAT'S RACIST!!!!!
I see this being our lineup when it comes to about game 25 but i see Girgensons on the top line to start the year.
Hodgson is the healthy scratch?? Foligno?? Traded?

I understand, but there regular season production was the same, so that should not be in the discussion. I know I said I wanted a playoff performer and you need to get there first. I am saying that I don't want to get too small and I think Oshie is that and plays soft. I dont want to try to make the playoffs by buying and then not have a good playoff team, I would rather keep the picks, wait another year or two and have a killer team for years apposed to trading them away in groups and losing players via free agency.
If we just keep picks and low cap hits, we can throw money at O'Reilly next offseason and we may have a young up coming team that can pay him what he wants. If we trade for high cap hit players, then it removes more chance at free agency (but at the same time, I dont recall many free agent signings that have paid off recently for any team).
Totally splitting hairs. Just ice a strong team and we will be fine. |
