So, Tiops believes the Penguins have interest in Jiri Hudler. Not opposed at all. Point producer; good work ethic from what I see; not terribly old (31 I believe) and a decent cap hit (4 million). Problem, he is only signed for one more year.
Not sure Calgary would want Sutter and if so, we need to add to that and not a 7th round pick. |

I used to be a Sutter guy. I thought he got a lot of undue criticism. But this year just drove me nuts. I can not stand a guy who never wins a battle. He just is too easily pushed off the puck to be effective or consistent. I'm very hopeful he's gone. - madmike71
I'm not that big of a Sutter basher. He is what he is a 3C. I do think that some GM will feel he is better than what he is and be willing to offer up a good deal for him. The writing is on the wall that he's gone so I hope they can get something solid back for him. |

And Rust. Don't you dare forget Bryan Rust
- Victoro311
I think Rust and Wilson are good 4th line guys. They both add speed and some skill, and collectively cost 1.3M. It would be stupid not to use them in the bottom 6. |

I don't want to speak for him but he probably believes it's a flaw with the team that is most easily fixed. I have to agree.
But yeah, he's relentless on Sutter.....kind of funny if you ask me. - madmike71
We are in need of top six forwards and he is female doging about third line center and if we replace Sutter, we are greatly improved instantly without going after the true priority. Yep, hilarious. |

This is the one issue I have with him... Yes, trading Sutter and a little extra could get us a top 6 winger. Then you might lose scoring on the 3rd line, and he also wants more secondary scoring.
Personally, I think we should just overload the top 2 lines, get a shutdown 3rd line, and a 4th line that will just do less harm than good and see how great our franchise players really are. |

Yep. He's a gamer. Comes from the Detroit school. I'd go after him if the price is right. Perhaps Sutter+B prospect and a Middle of the pack pick. |

They couldn't be any worse than Adams, Sill, or Lapierre. |

Stalberg on waivers. Always liked him for the 3rd line. Little too expensive though |

One of the two on the starting roster, O.K. The other one should be a call up in the middle of the season when needed to fit a certain role.
I think another good 4th line signing would be Jay Beagle, UFA with 20 points last year - great at face offs can play C and RW - might only get $1-1.2M. |

What's his salary like? I like him too. If we could move Scuderi this pick up wouldn't be bad at all. Sweedish moviment. Sign Soderberg too and bring Berglund from STL. |

I hope Pitt tries to make him work... would take him over just about all of the discussed targets including Sharp. |

Him being on waivers right now means he is most likely being bought out. |

I think he's offered a ton of solutions for upgrading the top 6. None of them are attractive, but he throws them out there. I guarantee you Ruthy and his 10 assistants are having the same discussions about the same players. Just because it's a difficult problem to solve, at least give him credit for looking for answers......and content to discuss.
I honestly believe losing a weak player like Sutter significantly improves the team. What's more... There's some viable FA's to do it with that shouldn't cost a ton more than him.

Like this signing. Seems like the type who will at least add some physicality and skill as a depth player. Best case he can be Malkin's 3rd wheel guy. We'll see about the skating, but hey Ryan Malone worked well with Malkin and he really couldn't skate.
Not sure GMJR can grab 2 sure fire top 6 wings. If so, the goal should be to grab another guy or 2 like this to compete for that spot. Maybe a prospect from another team or a guy like Kassian that hasn't broken through. They just need to get at least one good wing. |

I'd prefer a young player like Kassian, Rakell, Sceviour, etc. but ultimately one of these short-term rentals isn't the worst idea. Sharp is probably the absolute worst idea. Really any trade involving major future assets leaving Pittsburgh should be off-limits. Which is what will be required for any of the big names on the market. If Sutter isn't the centerpiece of the trade, forget it and move on. |

Sure he has given options for the top six, but like clock work ... talking about the top six and then the given Sutter jab as well in a blog that doesn't fit in. |

If that's the case, I can see him get claimed by a team needing to get to the floor. He's a good player, just overpriced |

Sutter for Rakell + draft compensation would be a solid move. Ducks have cap space to add him and he is a safety net, technically but not really, if they lose Kesler next season to UFA. |

I'd say Hudler would be ideal in a line with Geno. He works hard and has decent skills. Whoever played with them would get a huge boost in scoring. Plotnikov! |

Sutter would have to be the centerpiece, but I'm not sure Calgary needs Sutter. I like Hudler instead of Sharp ... he is more productive, a bit younger and he doesn't cost close to 6 million per. He is the best option I see out there of a veteran presence possibly mentioned. Ericsson intrigues me a bit because his price wouldn't be high to acquire and he is gone after a year if he doesn't work out.
