How did Letang NOT win the Masterton last night? - BourbonCounty
Dubnyk basically won it for overcoming the adversity of playing in Edmonton |

Another consideration is MIN. They want a 2C and need to move Spurgeon because they also have too many RH top 4 dmen. - jfkst1
I like the idea of getting a RH second pairing D from Minnesota or Nashville. |

I guess playing goalie in Edmonton and surviving requires more perseverance than coming back from a stroke.... |

Pens might have to do a bunch of 1 year deals again which is okay . How would yinz feel about Bergenheim and/or Fleisschman to 1 year contracts? - joescullz
I'm a big fan of Bergy in our bottom six. Sign me up |

I love the 1 year deal. I don't know how far those two have fallen. I used to love Bergenheim's game. - madmike71
I just don't feel comfortable committing to multi year deals to players like Soderberg, fehr, santorelli or cullen when next year's fa class shats on those guys. Put the guys i mentioned in next year's class and they would be paid accordingly, not what they're going to get this year, but good for them i guess. |

I don't think you can get any of those players without a multi year deal though. |

I'm sure in June 2014, the 2015 UFA class looked better than it is too. I suspect most of the players of interest will be re-signed before next July 1st. |

Why are the Pens linked to all those old vets on the decline? Didn't our GM come out and said we had to look towards youth? This scares me. - lpstjg
They aren't getting youth unless they give up youth. In which case... what is the point?
They need speed and good value more than youth specifically.

For what Soderberg is going to get this yewr, we might as well sign ROR next year....it will only cost about million more but who cares at that point. Who would you rather have long term: Soderberg at 5years/$28 mil or ROR at 5 years/$32 mil |

The best way to ensure the youth movement going forward is not giving up picks/prospects in trades and not signing old UFAs long term. |

I'd say Soderberg will max out at $5.5m for maybe 4 years. ROR is going to cost $7m+/yr for 5+ years on his next contract. Not saying either would be overpaid, but the scope of ROR's next contract is going to be far greater. |

Soderberg will be a lot cheaper than that, but I get your point. Trading Sutter is the pivot. Make the right move and you have a lot of flexibility. |

Not sure you would get either. When they ask who will be on their line and they say well not sure, but probably Spaling and if we find another top6 Dupes, or we signed this Russian that has never played in N. America, he might be a top 6 or not...or he might not make the team. What do ya think? |

Yes and we have some kind of youth, we just have to let them play. If speed is what we need, I am not so sure MSL will bring it, he was really looking like a completely different player at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. |

Several things in play here. 1) ROR is gonna get more than 6 point something. Soderberg is gonna get around 4. 2) ROR isn't gonna hit free agency. Colorado will either sign him or trade him to someone who will. We do not have the assets to squire him. |

exactly. that's the beautiful thing about splurging on a St. Louis or a Brad Richards.
They don't require a long deal. The best way to become young is to keep the high draft picks instead of trading for rentals. that'll take a few years of plugging and chugging with veterans on smart deals.

ROR is worth it. He will only be 25 when he becomes an fa and will only get better. Dude is a warrior. He can play center & wing, pk and pp....well worth the price. I rather have ROR at that cost than the one dimensional, head case Kessel. |

That is assuming he is going to actually become a UFA. No way the Pens can plan for him, or any other player, becoming a UFA in the 2016 class. |

Soderberg is going to get a heck of a lot more than 4. If he is worth 4 boston would have signed him by now. He and Balesky are the marquee fa's in this class...that should tell you something. |
