Never thought of Bill & Ted, but this draft will forever be known as the Bill & Ted Excellent Adventure Draft. |

If anyone SHOULD pull a Lindros it's the first overall pick. If it was me, I'd take one look at Edmonton and run far, far away. That's a great place to ruin your career before it starts. - Jeffmt
But he won't. He'll be an oiler for at least the next 6-7 years.
And even if he did, we'd trade him for a massive haul.
Win-win
I love the hate.
Enjoy whichever player of far lower caliber you get! |

He probably should have said that instead of making it sound like he would hold out for specific conditions for signing the contract... - shawzy_111
He was told by the gm that those conditions would be their plan.

Far lower caliber... we will see.
"I love the hate" is a saying for winners... IE people "hate" Tom Brady because he's good.. People hate the Oilers because they've had 4-6 years of #1 overall picks and still dwell at the bottom... No one is hating, take a walk |

No, Buffalo Sabres fans hate the organization because their deliberate tank didn't quite pan out. - Tangled
No, sabre fans dislike seeing a messed up franchise like the oilers get rewarded. Every other team feels the same.
Buffalo expected Eichel. No hate here, just that good ol dislike for the bumbling oilers and their ringmaster MacT who get the lucky reward for being incompetent yet again |

Yeah we're suicidal having to draft Eichel. So sad.

I would rather play in college than in the AHL as well. Especially if i was one of the best prospects to come through in a decade... - Sabresfan-365
Best prospect to come through in a decade for the Sabres or in the NHL? |

Everyone expected Eichel considering it was 20% to get McDavid...No hate at all my man; you're just misinformed. I wasn't rooting against the Sabres so your "deliberate tank" comment doesn't upset me at all... nice shade though |

uh-oh. All seriousness not trying to troll. But.... very concerning comments by eichel. Already putting himself above the organization? Could be nothing... or... - ChrisMS
I've also read some comments from GM's who are saying he's a bit of jackass on how he carries himself and these comments certainly back it up. |

Well then he should definitely not play for Winnipeg.
Seriously, this is why I hate hockey in the summer. |

Hey I totally agree. Our blog had fans asking for a

It could be that Eichel doesn't bullpoop. Most players coming into the league give the typical response "if that team draft me I will do whatever they ask" blah blah blah
At the end of the day he's gonna be an unreal player for you guys |

This happens to all the top prospects in every sport. They are in the spotlight for so long that people start to look for negative things about them. |

Would he even be able to play in the AHL or would he have to go play Major Juniors? From what I read he said he wouldn't go play Major Junior and would rather just stay in school. He also said that the Sabres organization assured him he would be in the NHL all year.
“If I’m signing, it’s not to leave school and go play major junior,” Eichel said Wednesday. “If I sign, it’s to play in the NHL the whole year. That’s the only way I’ll sign. And Buffalo has already explained to me that that would be the case.

Makes sense to me... I don't understand what everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over... - JCSabs06
so if the Sabres assured him he would be in the NHL the entire season, why is it even necessary to make the statement - that can be interpreted as a bit of an ultimatum publicly... why - how does that help him? or the Sabres?
seems a little immature or poorly advised. |

There's just a general movement towards soap opera coverage in sports, for which I blame ESPN, that just... I really don't give two poops so long as he works his ass off and scores lots of sports points.
And with hockey in particular, any sign of ego becomes a problem. If Eichel were going out for the NFL or NBA or hell, NASCAR... f'ing world tournament of poker - people would be fine with this. This is the only sport in the world I actually care about, and some of why is because the athletes tend to be more humble than in other sports - classy even, but it's an incredibly conservative culture, to the point of being ridiculous.
If some kid isn't a pre-programmed automaton who has nothing to offer but humblebrag cliches and anecdotes about how his parents made him this way growing up cutting alfalfa in the fields of Manitoba then he's a jerk. The media pounce on him (along with fans of other teams, naturally).
Give me a break. (Not you, by the way).
On Stone, you think he's going to keep building on last year? I still have Drew Stafford syndrome when it comes to break-out seasons. |

Because a reporter asked him a question and we the rabid masses are being thrown a piece of off-season-clickbait out of context.
My take: good, be cocky, believe in yourself, let the world know you have high expectations. Especially if the same has been said by the GM of the team who's going to draft you.
Or we could just turn the channel to Days of Our Lives or whatever. |

I think he will keep getting better. Alot will come down to how he trains in the summer. At the development camp last year he was a man amongst boys. His skating has improved by leaps and bounds compared to two years ago. It would be nice to see some other players share a similar commitment to training harder throughout the off season (talking to you Zibby and Ryan) |

Well he is 18 years old, I may have been a little bit of a d-bag at 18 as well. It seems the last immature asshat superstar that got drafted now has 3 cups so if Eichel is that "immature" I'll be happy to watch. |
