it's not trading for him that worries me, it's his ridiculous contract demands.
- Sabresfan-365

eh.. I'm sure we can work out something.. With cap rising each year and all our younger players going to be on RFA type deals for next 5 or so years I don't think it's as big of a deal as people are making it out to be.

Gone? Not yet. But yeah.

Seems to me that maybe Sakic has the principles of a deal for ROR but wanted to acquire a center first.

I find it hilarious how badly people don't want O'Riley.. If he's brought in for something like the 21st pick and one of our D prospects I'd be fine with it. I'm not thrilled with giving up either Zadorov or Pysyk (who probably wouldn't be enough anyway) But if we can get a younger D man somewhere else if it get's us a top 6 young two way winger I'll take it.
That being said I have an odd feeling he ends up in NJ or somewhere random like that.

- bluengold12

I've heard that Florida could be talking to them about him after their latest offer for Sharp got shot down.

You find it funny that people don't want to trade away assets to bring in a 2nd line center/left wing that wants 7-8 million dollars a year and only puts up 50 points per season?

It'd seem likely that they didn't just acquire Soderberg's rights to play the 4th line behind Duchene, MacKinnion, and ROR.

Friedman has said multiple times that one of the reasons the last sabres core had so many issues was because of the contracts in the room for players who really didn't deserve it.

You give O'Reilly 7.5 or more you'll have to give Reinhart and Eichel 12 each by the end of their entry level deals.

Look at it this way... if you put ROR on the wing.... him and TJ Oshie have IDENTICAL stats over the past 4 years... would you ever even f'n consider paying Oshie 7.5M for 8 years. That is like stupid Shane Doan rumored money from a few years ago.

The reason the last Sabres core didn't work out was because we had an idiot owner and even more incapable GM who couldn't resign even 1 of our franchise playoff proven centers and decided to over compensate to save their asses by overpaying decent players but not as good as the two they let go.

and a coach who played a style which only worked with a said team that we no longer hand and refused to allow players to play to their strengths.

Okay then.. trade for Oshie. What's his cap hit? 21st overall and a Foligno probably gets it done. Or a prospect like Hurley.

Praying to any higher power who's willing to listen that we do not trade for that POS
- TheSabresTaco

I'm OK with ROR if TM can keep the haul going back to Colorado reasonable. One thing's for sure, Murray apparently has big soccer balls....

That doesn't really answer anything. And i wouldn't assume anything about the cap going up. I don't want to overpay for someone like O'Reilly. Bring in kessel instead, someone who puts up points and will have the same cap hit.

I think he was more so saying (frank) (frank) (frank) because it means taht ROR could really be on his way out if they are acquiring another 3C.

I thought I read that Soderberg wanted a 5 year deal not 5M per year deal??

I have zero interest in O'Reilly, the cap, and moving assets not with standing, he is playing a postion we don't need. Bring in a RW, not another c/LW hybrid.

In this day in age players like Eichel, Risto and Reinhart won't be going anywhere as long as we balance everything out. With the cap space we have projected for the years to come and the RFA deals and bridge deals that occur. Matching that up with the window of when this core will be at their primes we should be able to afford O'Riley for 7 7.5 million a year. And when you think about it that's not that horrible considering the rising sallary cap

. As many as 7-8 teams are believed to be interested in him and can now talk to him officially. Word is Soderberg's camp is looking for $5 million a year. Not sure he’ll get that, but there’s no harm in trying

100% agree, you can get a great RW/LW for what you are giving up for ROR
