I honestly think Kessel gets an unfair bad rap but I also honestly think there are better wing options out there via trade or UFA (at least value based UFA) - turbo044
I agree |

Homer, I can't deal with that 8 mill for another 7 years. - SABRES 89
But reports are O'Reilly wants 8 years for 60, in essence almost the same contract. |

O'Reilly is a cancer - Mentalorgasm5
He's absolutely a cancer. No one needs him and good for the AVs for walking away from his outrageous demands. |

I wonder if Marcus Foligno is part of a deal, a really nice sweetner to seal a deal? Just throwing that out there to piss some people off no doubt |

O'Reilly has had 55, 64 and 55 pts in his last 3 full years in the league and I'm someone who doesn't look to stats solely as the basis as the whole worth of a player. - GilPerreault11
Yep plus he has gotten very little PP time. His 5 on 5 points per 60 minutes played is near the top of the league which is a very important stat and his possession numbers are outstanding (something the Sabres were historically bad at).A good football comparison is Kessel is Jay Cutler and O'Reilly is Russell Wilson. One puts up the gaudy stats and loses, one does all the little things to win. |

You're contradicting yourself, he can't be given away, but at the same time he might get traded?
I don't understand this board. Let's give up 31 and Ennis for a 50 point guy, rather than make a move on a player who plays a position we NEED and can net 40 goals. - Mentalorgasm5
Not that I'm all about the idea of Kessel, but yes I agree with this assessment. We just. Don't. Need him. |

Shhh. We aren't allowed to have opinions that we base on off of facts.
So the goalie trade wind is quiet all of a sudden... |

There is a reason he hasn't been on the power play. They don't feel he would be efficient there. He plays top 6 minutes and doesn't get any Powerplay time, that should tell you something. |

Seems like most of the older folk and buzz regulars take their opinion way to seriously. |

Why is he a cancer ? for what reason ? because he wants to get paid ? Kessel and Nash are cancers as well I guess. I guess so is Saad |

That was my point when Homer called kessel a cancer, it's why I called O'Reilly a cancer. |

Kessel is better right now but the last 3 years of his contract when he is aged will be one of the worst in the league. Oreilly is 24. 7 year contract brings him to 31. You get him in his prime his whole contract.
That said, I am one of the few who say hold steady for now. We made a big splash with kane. We can always trade our prospects later (armia, Lemieux, Mcnabb).
Everyone is still delusional on how fast we are rebuilding. We were by far the worst team the last two years. Our "stars" are 18, 19 and 20 (eichel, Reinhart, risto). Teams do not win with your top centers being 18 and 19. You guys are the same people who thought we were gonna almost make the playoffs last year too. Our guys need to age into their roles. Even worse idea are you guys who want to overpay average FA this year to "speed up". There is a salary cap and we would feel it in 3 years when people are offer sheeting us due to bad contracts.
The time to strike is 2 years. There will be teams even then in cap trouble and we will be ready. |

The way he handles his contract negotiations. There's absolutely no way that guy deserves 7.5 million, he has been a headache ever since his ELC ran out. He just does not seem like a decent human being. I don't like him, but more importantly, this team does not need a 7.5 million dollar 55 point producer.
And I know a few of you will hate this, but ya know what, I'd rather pay for Kessel and Nash's contract than ROR's any day, all day. |

Kessel is 27, his style of play will allow him to be successful at mid 30s. No way to justify paying a 50 point player 7.5 million dollars a year. |

Disagree. He is not going to be an elite scorer at 33 and 34. He will slow down and a lot of those goals skating around guys on the outside will dry up |

The Sabres received permission to talk with Rangers goalie Cam Talbot to see if he'd be open to coming to Buffalo, says @FriedgeHNIC
Clown this one's for you.
If we trade for a guy, he's not going to be a rental.
Now whether you or I think he deserves to be here long term, that's a completely different story. |

I'm on the same page as you!!!! My thoughts are 3 years down the road Eichel, and Reinhart are probably going to be max contracts, Risto???? Ect, Ect. We can't afford to get crazy just because we have a lot of cap room because it will bite us in the future.

Guys who steer away from corners and don't take the body are usually still scoring at that age, we are talking about kessel, not a player such as brown, Callahan or doan. |

Didn't they reject 2 2nd rounders? Are we giving up 21 for this guy |
