Anybody wanna take a flyer on Paul Martin? - feetontheair22
I would. I want to add a solid veteran defenseman. I have a feeling we're going to end up with Bieksa though in a multi-player deal involving Lack. |

I think he turned 39 this year and had a decent drop in production |

O'Reilly is a great player. Is he the best, no. Should we want him, absolutely. Its all about the cost. Same goes for Kessel. All the arguing on here is ridiculous. We were a terrible team and now we don't want to acquire talent because of what?
If O'Reilly costs you what Kane cost, a 1st and 2 prospects, than I say do it. I'm not as high on Kessel entirely because of age and contract. I think he's super talented and would be great playing with any of our 3 centres and there's always the buy-out but O'Reilly fits the long-term plan better. - Bullet_Bills
Both have their pluses and minuses.
Seems to come down to what we lose for each player. Me? Rather have Kess over Ror because of the price to get him. Ror would be huge and still no long term contract. |

I'd take that all day long from a 37 year old winger. |

don't get me wrong....i'd LOVE to see reggie back here....if only just to call him 'reggie' more lol...but i think he can end up on a cup contender this year rather than a sabres team who could contend in 3 |

People like to hate on ROR because he is trying to get paid. I'm telling you with about as much certainty as I can muster that he would be a fan favorite around here with the way he plays. He's a Buffalo mentality player for sure. |

Iginla does not make 8 million.
If we are talking about that fat mess Phil Kessell, I want him nowhere near a Sabres uniform, ever. And I highly doubt he will be putting up anything close to those numbers at 37, if he is even still playing in the NHL. |

That's the production you're gonna get from O'Reilly at 7.5 million. |

I don't think he'd cost an unreasonable amount. Something along the lines of the 21, McCabe (or insert prospect) and Pysyk (or Bogo/Zad). I wouldn't be worried about the contract. I'm sure GMTM could get it done and for less than 8 mil, less than 7 I'd imagine. All that being said, I wouldn't be angry if we got Kessel instead. |

At 33 and 34 I can see it and I would pay him the $8 million. Not to mention the previous 5 years of being a 75-85 point player, maybe even more playing with a real center for the first time in his career. |

What was yours???? I have been saying for 3 pages now that kessel is not worth 8 million when he is 33-34 years old. you then brought up how iginla did it and said you would take 50 pts around that age. Iginla makes 5.5 million, that's good production at that salary. If he was getting paid 8 million like kessel will be at 34 that's bad.

There is a huge difference between a 25 year old player who plays a great 2 way game, has never seen much powerplay time, still puts up 50+ points a year, hasn't entered his prime than a 35+ year old guy who still manages to put up great numbers on 1 and 2 year deals. I'd take ROR all day and pay him 7 a year for it. That's just the economics of it. |

I don't hate Talbot but I don't love him either. I think we can all agree if we give up 21 for him, poop's gonna get real (frank)in sour around here.
51 and low asset would be absolutely perfect. - TheSabresTaco
Me and a few others (MHP) have been preaching 31 for Lack would be a good deal. Got pooped on by a few. I definitely don't want to get in a bidding war for Talbot. Much rather do nothing and sign one of the half decent FA's on July 1.
