Not a top pairing guy, I would like him but he wont be worth what he is going to get .

I wouldn't mind signing him if we can't get a top pairing guy

I agree he's not a top pairing guy but unfortunately there are no top pairing D available right now. The best way to get 1 is to draft one. They rarely hit free agency and when they do it's for $$$$

Sabres have one top pairing guy in Risto a potential top pairing guy in Zadarov and then a bunch of 2nd pairing guys Pysyk, Bogosian, McCabe.

A top pairing LHD is a need.

I'd trade 21, 51 and another piece to get one

- sbroads24

I agree, i want to see them trade for o'reilly and address a top 4 left D this offseason.

I think if this guy is available for real go for it, look for your dman in free agency. Need to spend.

Would you send another d-man back in that package? Zadorov or Pysyk? Top pairing guys are usually on the trade block
- Cheeseballin

People need to stop trying to trade Zadorov and Pysyk!!

I'd really like to get him. He could play with Zadorov if we keep him and help out on the back end. He's a gutsy player and has Stanley cup experience. I'd throw 5-6 million at him for three four years if that's what it takes.

If were looking for a real top pairing dman through trade it will cost more than it should for o'reilly

I actually don't think Phaneuf is as bad as everyone makes him out to be.

He'd probably be a decent #2 or #3

He isn't he has just been beat down by the toronto media and everyone jumps on. Not the best D man but would be solid guy here.

Wonder if Gelinas on NJ could be had, high offensive upside. if they want a true top pairing guy it will probably cost a lot more (if one is even available).

speaking of d-men, read this article on tsn about the value of draft picks, 8th overall is an absolute disaster in the NHL.

I don't think it's far fetched at all to say that Ristolainen could be the best 8th pick ever.

Edit: #10 is pretty bad as well

I like Gelinas. Great offensive skill, but terrible in his own zone so far. I think of him as a young Mike Green

I think I'd want a guy who's proven but still under 28 or 29.

I'd give up a ton for Josi. Never will happen. But it's my pipe dream.

That list is probably 0 names long tbh. Best bet may be getting one with our top pick in next years draft

Hopefully our pick next year is in the 10-15 range unless we win the lottery

Hopefully not. So sick of that no mans land pick. They should either go for it or hold back. One gets you playoffs, the other gets you another key player for your team. Picking 14th does neither.

I don't believe he is "officially" available, but i'd definitely be interested.

Phaneuf's no top pairing guy. Media in Toronto is way too hard on him, but you win nothing with him on your top pair, plus i think he's 31 now? 7 mil for another 7 years of him would be a disaster.

Not really. An ideal senario would be the team and young players show tremendous growth and either get close to playoffs or make it but I'd prefer us play well and have our young guys do well then sit through the bleep we sat through the past two seasons and have our young players entrenched in a losing atmosphere

How many more high draft picks are necessary? We arent looking for centers anymore hopefully for a real long time. You can hit 10-20 and get high talent, might just not play at 18.

Its time to insulate eichel, reinhart, risto with players to start winning. IF we are in position to get another look at the lottery come TD we should not do anything and let it play out. Otherwise up up up

You can still show major growth and come away with high pick. Top pairing D is probably as hard to acquire as a #1C. Unless one becomes available via trade I think the draft is the best way to go.

6 years left. If they retain 2 mil I would take him at 5 over Bogosian any day of the week. Phaneuf has 4 40+ point seasons
