Kapanen, Bennett, Harrington, Scuderi, Kunitz, 2016 3rd
For
Kessel with 1.5 retained
That's a deal I'd make, but I imagine Toronto would fine a better deal elsewhere.
No way I trade Mattaa, and even Pouliot leaves a hole on our already thin D, that cannot be filled after taking on Kessels salary. - Willaged
Here is what that team could possibly look like assuming we also sign both Russians. I also did the Kassian for Sutter deal people talked about and have 4.5 mil left under cap for moves at deadline and to save for DP and Maatta extensions. |

I'm willing to wait rather than bring a pudgy dbag like Kessel to our roster. Guy will be going to his 3rd team for a reason. - madmike71
Kessel has probably donated more to charity than you have made in your life, but yeah I guess he is a dbag
How many teams has perron played for? is he a dbag as well? |

Frolik got a lot of time in the top 6 last year, with little/scheifele. A little much to expect
60+ at worst from a guy who has a career high of 45 in 8 seasons.
Kunitz/Perron show that a guy is not a lock to do well just because they play with crosby or malkin - GardinerExpress
I think Malkin can make him a 60-point guy. You keep saying the bullpoop about Kessel and what he can do with a Crosby or Malkin, Geno can do the same with Frolik ... turn him into a more legit scorer and point producer.
Are you saying Kunitz never benefitted from Crosby. LOL. Shows what you know about hockey.
Fact is this and its not hard to figure out things ... Frolik for $5 million >>>> than Kessel at 8 million because we save three million in the process per year, but we don't have to GIVE UP ANYTHING TO SIGN A UFA. Is that too difficult to figure out? Obviously, it is. 12 year old kids understand that. |

Is McDavid better than Kessel? Your logic says NO WAY!
Everyone in the world would take McDavid over Kessel! Do you understand NOW? - so_buzz11
so you are comparing maata to mcdavid? Everyone in the world would take mcdavid over ANY player.
a bit different to compare the best prospect in a decade to a young d-man picked 22nd overall a couple years ago. |

he isn't comparing maatta to mcdavid... he's comparing your stupidity that insinuates that a player's value is weighed purely by their talent.
Is Kessel more talented? Yes.
Is Maatta in a better contract situation? Yes.
Is Maatta younger and more likely to get better? Yes.
it's that simple. to be honest, if there was a maatta for kessel offer, i'm not sure i'd do that from the penguins end. |

How many points did kunitz have last year? 40
how many points did perron have in half a seaons with the pens? 22
both guys have a much better track record of scoring than frolik. but go ahead, project 65-80 points or whatever you think frolik will get.
also I hope the pens sign frolik for 5.5 x 6 years. that will help the cap situation more than trading scuderi and futures for kessel with 1.5 or so retained. |

Is Perron a 5 time 30 goal scorer? Guess not. Somebody said earlier it's rare for a legit scorer like that to hit the market. He seems to be a guy teams are willing to live without.

Toronto is not going to retain any of Kessel contract. They will consider taking a bad contract or two if the deal and term doesn't effect the rebuild. It would have to be contacts that drop off within 3 years or it's a no starter. |

by that logic the leafs would be unwise to trade Morgan Rielly for any pen including crosby/malkin?
yeah you are right, that is stupid. |

wow .
to call maatta better than a 27 year old with five 30+ goal seasons is borderline crazy.
A good young player he is, but might be better to wait until he has a few good years under his belt. - GardinerExpress
Christ, do you watch anything? Maatta skipped the AHL entirely as a 19 year old kid and went straight to the NHL; had a great opening season before injury and basically became one of the best young defensemen in the game. He is just as good at his end of the ice and is showing an offensive game.
He is the guy you build a defense around. |

i would love kessel with crosby. i really do think it would be perfect. i think crosby would put up numbers that would clear everyone else in the league by leaps and bounds if he had kessel and hornqvist on his line.
BUT
there is just literally no way it can work. absolutely none. toronto doesnt HAVE to trade kessel. its not like theyre going to let him go for 60 cents on the dollar.
the two obstacles are very obvious. assets to acquire and salary. i just dont think the team can realistically jump both hurdles.
put me down for frolik. even if it takes 5 mil. i think thats off by about a million, but thats just the price of doing business right now. |

I really don't think the deal works more for Toronto than Penguins, you would most likely have to give up your top prospect, Sutter and a first but are able to get ride of a bad contract or two. Kessel deal is market value and as the cap goes up will be a steal. the only down side I see is five year from now when he starts to decline. - BadWaffle
So it's bad 5 years from now when Kessel starts to decline and maatta/Pouliot and the 1st round pick are in their prime |

his health is scaring me. but maatta is untouchable for me. i wouldnt deal maatta for kessel straight up, considering kessel's salary.
im placing my eggs in the basket of his health, but maatta is the reason im willing to risk a youth movement on D, which enables the overpayment of a guy like frolik. |

they should just hand the norris to him then? call it the olli maata award.
saying he is already the best player in a kessel trade is dumb. guys like that henderson clown trying to back it up with percieved value due to contract, age, etc is just hilarious.
pens fans overvalue their players quite a bit. sutter+scuderi aint gonna bring back poop.
but yeah frolik looking for 5+ x 6 years will cure this team - GardinerExpress
i agree that a lot of people on here overrate the pens players. but come on dude. why are you so tiffy over the fact that theres just no deal to be made?i wouldnt expect you to move kess for 60 cents on the dollar. if you had to, then the pens could probably put together a B minus type package of value. but admittedly, you dont.
so theres just no sale to be made here, no matter how awesome he would be with crosby.

I hear Fehr is not going back to Washington.
Maybe the Pens can pick up Fehr at a reasonable price when/if they trade Sutter? |

totally fine.
thats well within their right.
if youre looking to get this huge package to jumpstart the rebuild, i dont blame you. id hold out for a big pile of assets too. kessel is really the only bomb the leafs have to drop to ignite the rebuild. they cant afford to allow themselves to be scalped for him. |

so kessel is a dbag because he has scored more than perron, and MIGHT be going to his 3rd team in what 9 years?
How many teams has Hossa played for? Is he a dbag?
I just think it's funny when an armchair gm calls out a player like he know's him personally. back to moms basement with you! |

Christ, you are a tard. What did Kunitz do with Crosby the year before? career high 35-33-68 and played for Canada in the Olympics you moron. Yep, I guess Crosby didn't have any impact on him whatsoever. Dupuis had career years with him. Both are viewed as third line guys. They meshed with him genius.
Funny, Frolik can't improve with Malkin, but dough boy will rip it up with Malkin? Not a given champ, as you have stated. Nothing is for certain. So, Frolik at 5.5 and not giving up anything is >>> than acquiring dough boy and his 8 million for the next 7 years and his poopty attitude (isn't that what got him sent to the fourth line and healthy scratched this year) and giving up good assets.
Go home now. I think a lot of people (not all, but a lot) think dough boy is a good player, but not worth acquiring for the same reason I'm stating. |

ill guess right around 5 years, 27.5 mil. something like that.
id love him, but for that. just no. for some reason i feel like he might get more than frolik. |
