LA spent a lot of time building and developing that team, and many years where the fanbase was frustrated and lost patience. Now that they're in a position where they should be able to contend every year, they have to try and maximize that. Most GM's know that they aren't going to be with a team forever, so they make the most of the time that they with a roster that is capable of winning it all.
