CSNNE says that Boston is attempting to trade up to get Hanifan.
- MJL

Just seems somewhat counter productive to move Hamilton in the process to do so.

Hope it was still worth it to them if they cant get him
- funmaster18

Why wouldn't it be? They now don't have to leave the stage for 3 straight high picks.

NHL Network is saying it's partly due to what Hamilton wanted in his next contract salary wise & it was more than Boston was comfortable with long term.

If nothing else they can power us off the board with whoever is looking to sell the Provorov pick. Probably the fracking Devils.

It said on the same site that Hamilton was looking for a multi year deal worth the same as Doughty for about 7M a year. Bruins wanted a bridge deal, and felt that he would be an offer sheet target, so they wanted to get a better deal then what an offer sheet would give them.

Still think if they had a cap system similar to MLB it'd work better for the NHL over the long haul

Crazy, though -- should've just manned up and paid Hamilton

We can all laugh and joke and argue and fight. We are just guys on the Internet

But that poop is real, and you don't trade a 22-year-old, gifted defenseman, right-handed, with his physical gifts, just coming off his ELC and who you drafted, just for the hell of it

Lucic, I totally get. Motor might have gotten into cruise control for the money

Dougie Hamilton had 10 goals and 40-plus points last year

Trading that guy when you hold his rights should get people fired

Can the Kings even afford Lucic right now?

Giroux hasn't been traded, so I guess he's not worth anything in a deal either
- funmaster18

With chara slowing down and being a non factor on the horizon. I absolutely keep Hamilton and pay him. D men like that are worth their weight on gold. Just wish the flyers could have gotten him.

"While Mark Streit produced offensively last season, he may bring back the biggest return of any Flyers blueliner as he enters his final year of his contract at a cap hit of $5.25 million.

Exactly. They should be and most likely could've moved Chara. Then they'd have Hamilton and possibly Hanifin.

I don't like the move at all.

And a few years of waiting instead of a young guy that can help them now and the future. They could have just traded lucic and have two picks instead of three plus a roster player with a bright future.

No, just applying your logic that if a player hasn't been moved he has no value in a deal

Maybe you can argue that Boston and Sweeney are putting their foot down in a effort to hold down salaries, with the report that Hamilton was asking for 7M a year. The problem is if you traded him for that reason, some other team is going to give it to him, so what's the point?
