Worst case scenario, IMO, would be to offer sheet him, and let someone try and grab him from you. If it was for that kind of money, the compensation is nuts. - the deaninator
4 first rounders, right?
Players must "accept" a qualification, right? In the event other teams don't offer sheet him....
I still say the smart thing to do is trade Chara and use that money for Dougie. I mean it'd be the perfect amount, and the haul would be dope. Boston is on the downswing anyway, but have Tuukka and (had) Hamilton...trading Chara gets them the assets to replenish.
But what do I know |

but that is harder then most think, look at hexy holding onto all his vet bottom six D guys right now... he'd love to trade one or two for more picks, just is tough to do - Marc D
I think Hextall is just waiting for a deal he likes, I don't think he'll have a problem trading those guys. He may not get the return he wants, but he can deal them to get the cap space.

Anthony Beauvillier could be the guy at 29. They like their QMJHL forwards. |

Already asked this. It's an interesting situation. Here's what I said
That's why I ask. I always saw him as a bit of a sleeper value pick. Kid can really fly, has good puck instincts...
But man- you have to take a forward at this point right? Going best player available is great, but...this situation is one where you might not want to go that route if it's a defenseman. |

actually, what if Calgary has no plan on signing him.
Planning on someone offersheeting him at 7M
thats 2 firsts, 1 second and 1 third.
that is a profit on their end. |

I could be wrong, I thought the team needed to submit an offer sheet, in order to retain the player's rights. They don't have to sign it, it just needs to be offered before the cutoff date. If not, then he becomes a UFA. |

Woulda been sweet to land him at 29. I figured it was a huge stretch though.
Konecny dropping like a stone though. Maybe that's the guy? |

You're talking about a Qualifying Offer, not an Offer Sheet. An Offer Sheet is from another team. A player not signing his qualifying offer does not become a UFA. The team retains his right by making the qualifying offer.

Lots of good players could be there at 29. Do you take another D? Do you take Blackwood. |
