MDZ should be worth a 2nd on his own. - Feanor
As tempting as this is, it depends on what his demands. I think I'd give Del Zotto the same deal we gave Steve Mason when we resigned him, which right now is a steal.
Yup, my buddy is a Boston fan and he's none too happy with the draft. He hated the Dougie trade, but loved the Lucic deal. I thought they got great value for Lucic too. But man, I couldn't help but shake my head at those selections. I thought they were going to clean up when I saw Barzal, Connor, Svechnikov, and Konecny there. I know they wanted a d-man but I was shocked they didn't take 2 of those forwards especially Barzal and Connor. - five4fighting10
If you're going to move a guy like Hamilton, you fax every other GM in the world.
They moved Hamilton for 15th, 45th and 52nd, and he's a legitimate top 4(at worst) NHL D-man at age 23.
Griffin Reinhart is a really good prospect, but hasn't developed as quickly as hoped. He got the Islanders 16th and 33rd.
Exactly, 29 other teams (if they had the cap space or ability to create the cap space) would have offered better deals if given the chance. - five4fighting10
James Mirtle tweeted at one point that a he talked to a few GMs that had no idea Hamilton was really in play. That's a guy you put on the auction block and get a massive return for

It would seem this was a hasty decision on Hamilton. Also, there may have been a mandate, Hamilton can only be traded out West. A stunning trade that is up there with trading Seguin and resigning Krejeci long-term. The B's don't mind moving young talent.

That's what makes it a giant question mark for me. It's not like they were completely powerless in this situation. I feel like they could/should have gotten more for him, way more. Especially since they are going to need the youth on defense sooner than later.

Wow. I understand if you get a can't say no to offer like if Arizona offered the 3rd pick, Domi, Duclair, and Gormley for Hamilton and you jumped on it without shopping around in fear of Arizona taking that offer off the table. But man oh man, how do you not shop Hamilton around. That's the kind of move that can get a GM fired quickly. Do your due diligence man.

Sweeney says that Hamilton was not eager to sign a longer term extension & felt an OS was possible.
OK, fine, if that's an issue, trade him. But get full value. That's not an asset you hang a sing that says "For Sale, Best offer" on.

Yep. You put out feelers to everyone, and risk the damned offer sheet.
